I thought it uses a second core ?!Damir wrote:Too bad it is single core..![]()
I like the idea to use wasted cores for different kind or alternative computation.
Some engines compute parallel with the same engine, ed uses more than one core with different approach.
I always thought one should better use the sleeping cores for something better then sleeping.
And I also thought the more different the approaches are, the more gain one will get out of it.
The idea came to my mind when ed did the aprils fool joke with a little stockfish on the second core. It reminded me on Ingo althoefers 3brain approach with different computers or how Stefan Meyer kahlen I mplemented this idea in the shredder GUI.
When ed fooled us with stockfish I knew the idea has more then joke quality.

Corrected in the download.
How do you set ponder off? It always plays with ponder on.

Final remarks and downloads
I have seen it now several times that so now and then ProDeo (from earlier versions on) for reasons unknown ignores the GUI permanent brain setting and sometimes just plays with an active permanent brain despite the GUI forbids it. Hence I made the following fundamental change. The permanent brain from now on is controlled by setting [Permanent Brain = off] and the default setting is on. To play without the permanent brain you must change the ProdDeo.eng file.

PS. A BIG thanks to Ed for Prodeo 2.2!

Re: ProDeo 2.2 SMP
There seems to be a bug which causes ProDeo 2.2 to display the wrong Depth info. I have seen this displayed on different positions and GUI's

Re: ProDeo 2.2 SMP
No bug, depths >200 come from the slave (engine) in case it finds something better than the master (engine). When you for instance see a depth of 214, subtract 200 for the real depth.

Made a short test: (CEGT 40/20 conditions)
1 ProDeo 2.2 SMP 010½11½½½½100½01½½01 10.0/20 100.00
2 Cipollino 3.25x64 1CPU 101½00½½½½011½10½½10 10.0/20 100.00
looks good - here more than 30 points better than Pro Deo 2.0

Re: ProDeo 2.2 SMP (no Q3.exe, only 1 core running?)
So, I tried to play a game against the new 2.2 SMP version, and noticed it only uses 1 core and not more. I looked at the wb2uci.eng file and it's the same as the one for version 2.0, (expect for the 2.2 version number).Damir wrote:has just been released. Can be found here:

Thanks Ed.
Damir
On his website, Ed mentions: "The SMP version is located in the Q3 subfolder and called Q3.EXE named after the winning the $1000 contest of 1999 creating the Q3 personality."
However, in the extracted Prodeo 2.2 folder, there is no Q3 subfolder and no Q3.exe.
Am I missing something? Maybe Ed or someone else who knows more could shed some light, please, thank you very much.
Gracias,
CL
