Hi Lyudmil,
but you are right ...
Nejment, Dragon, AnMon, Pharaon, Capture and many others French programs ... I missed the programmers too. Not only the engines, more the guys for the community here. Again, very sympathical persons and most reason why Arena have so many French partner engines.
Without the French programmers in Winboard times, UCI development times ... never we are so fast and right in protocol questions. I am so happy that the French programmers made a 1a support at this time because this group animated a lot and this one was most important. Very very important in computer chess history what the French programmers do for us.
Maybe I made a mistake in times I give up my work for Arena. I know that different others lost at this time his interest on it.
But today not longer important for me (Arena).
Best
Frank
PS: ice is really very strong with a lot of potential. A great engine ... maybe before Christmas or after Christmas the programmer will give us an update? Hope so ... fantastic to see what the programmer do here for improvements in the last available versions and he have a very interesting website.
Any eta for the next version of Komodo?

Re: French programmers ...
Spike 1.4 from Germany, and Spark 1.0 from the Netherlands, are the 2 highest rated engines, whose development stopped several years ago, in my personal ELO list (positions 23 and 38 out of 316)
An earlier version of Spike, version 1.2, actually topped my rating list for 4 years from 2006 to 2009.
The previous incarnation of Spark, which was Bright, was also a strong engine at the time.

Colin,
shortly ... absolutely!
Spark and Spike are great engines. Spark is very very strong in tactic but have a bad endgame ... not important. Fact is Spark is great!
Personal Elo list ...
Never I would give it to others (the results, your results) if you will send me the list for looking. You can be sure ... I have to see that or I have a problem to find a good sleeping next night.

Back to the strength of the updated Engines:
I belong to the people which like engines getting stronger and stronger.
About two years ago i thought engines were so strong that improving even more would be very hard.
In this time K and SF made a race and tried to pass each other with every update. Now we find us in the comfortable situation that there are 3 super strong enginges (SF, K, H) and Shredder as forth is following.
Houdini and Shredder had never seen Elo improvements after a very long time. Wow! I like it like this!
This are the biggest christmas presents since many year for us computer chess / engine fans.
Regards,
Frank

Hi Frank,
thats right.
Don't forget Booot, Andscacs and Fizbo.
Great engine comes in big steps!
Nirvana and all the others.
TOP-41 in my list have an Elo average from 2.900 if Shredder 12 have 2.800 ...
So, TOP-41 average is around 50 Elo stronger as the strongest human have (think so after good know GM comments I have contacts ... Shredder with 2.800 on one Core). The situation today is great, fantastic. Many interesting playing styles. Many really good works ... have a look in all the interesting things we can do with Rodent (for one example only). Laser is on the way with an interesting style ... and so many others.
And yes, the TOP programmer made us a nice christmas.
Have fun ...
We have today a 100% fun Situation!
Nice GUI develops, have a look in Winboard message, Cutechess ... and all the others. Great Tools, like the work by Norman.

not happy at all; winning too many games against the tops, and having even greater number of won positions.
I have the impression current tops are too shaky in their play, especially their evaluation.

Hi Lyudmil,
but good ...
Give the programmers the material ... you do that in the past (good).
So long we have ideas and material to make it better so long all is fully OK.

Well we are making progress, but do not have a release date or enough elo yet. Larry and I want a bigger than normal elo gain since Stockfish and Houdini have had big gains.JohnW wrote:Just wondering if there is an eta for the next version of Komodo?
