We tried this already with GM Erenburg. Komodo have him odds of 30 to 1 ratio time odds, plus using only one core of laptop, plus he got White pieces, plus no TBs for Komodo, plus only 3 move opening book for Komodo, plus no ponder. Still, Komodo won 3.5 to 0.5.Nordlandia wrote:Another way to lessen the enormous strength difference is cpu odds.JJJ wrote:Probably not easily. I made Stockfish play against itself yesterday, and it took it around 40/50 move to win and the eval didn't change before a long time. So the human has to be accurate with many move, and so far, I didn't see any human be accurate enough to win when he just has a good starting position without pieces advantages.
New opponent, new handicaps for Komodo.

Re: New opponent, new handicaps for Komodo.
sorry, I quickly browsed king on e4, pawn on f6, white to play, and immediately pruned away the position with an e4 black king, as fully unrealistic.lkaufman wrote:Lyudmil, since you had the start position wrong (it's the BLACK king on e4!) does that change your opinion? I can't imagine anyone doubting that White is winning. Only question is how easily?
of course, the correct position should be easily won for white, close to +300cps, but not against Komodo.
the other 2 positions, btw. all interesting, feature similar advantages, much higher than the ones you used vs GM(I already forgot his name) last year.
still, I am betting on a 3:0 Samuelson whitewash against Komodo.

Komodo play white the first game. So you means Human will crush 3 0 Komodo ? Funny, I would have almost bet the opposite here.
It might end with 3 draw. We see.

yes, 2.5/3 for Samuelson.JJJ wrote:Komodo play white the first game. So you means Human will crush 3 0 Komodo ? Funny, I would have almost bet the opposite here.

I do believe in Samuelson.
I managed to play some very quick games against SF with those positions(just 1 min. time for SF, no time right now for more), and actually the position with e4 black king is at least twice as hard to win than the other 2.
for the other 2, with SF having just a minute, I feel like playing vs a very weak opponent, while with the e4 king one, mostly draws are achieved, with defence offering sufficient challenges.
but that are just very quick games, one should give SF at least couple of minutes plus increment, in order for the game to have any sense, I would very much love to try this out in a larger pool of games, maybe post some games for people to scald me, but really no time right now.
as I however indeed like similar handicaps very much, I will probably give those positions another try at some later point, after Samuelson has already made a short work of Komodo...
again, the king e4 position is much harder, Samuelson will probably miss here the win, but what concerns the other 2, there is simply nowhere to go wrong.

do you know how much komodo has increased in elo since then ?lkaufman wrote: We have played somewhat similar handicaps successfully in the past against FMs John Meyer and Larry Gilden, but they were in their 70s and rated about 150 elo lower than Andy. He will be a much tougher opponent.

More than a hundred elo, but in theory the strength of the odds-receiver is more important than the strength of the odds-giver. If there are no good moves to find, it's not clear how much extra elo helps.duncan wrote:do you know how much komodo has increased in elo since then ?lkaufman wrote: We have played somewhat similar handicaps successfully in the past against FMs John Meyer and Larry Gilden, but they were in their 70s and rated about 150 elo lower than Andy.
