Enjoy your break!

I very much agree.

Best wishes for the future, Amanj. I am looking forward to Zahak 10...

Amanj, from the other thread :

Not sure if you really don't understand, or you act as one. I haven't asked him not to use it. I haven't asked him anything of that sort. I have asked him to publish the results as Zahak 9.0-Compiled by Whoever compiled it, because for Zahak 9 to be compiled to Android some code alteration needs to happen (which means the end result is not 100% Zahak 9.0). And, this is probably my last post here. I retired from chess programming.

Don't let your hobby be taken away because of a few people, think about it during your break.
90% of coding is debugging, the other 10% is writing bugs.

Thanks to all the great people :)
Congratulations. I just wonder where you got all the time to do this in just 8 months. I'm happy if I get an hour or 2 in the weekends to work on Rustic :( Good luck with whatever you're going to do now. If you become as good as Zahak in Chess, the next world champion won't even stand a chance.

PS: You know that, if you had written Zahak in Rust, it would have been 70 Elo stronger than it is now?

If my engine ever gets beyond 3000 Elo (without NNUE), then it is strong enough to use for analysis. I'll probably only implement multi-threading at that point. NNUE may be added some day after that, but I'll probably shift my main focus to writing a Rust-based replacement for PicoChess and a new user interface in Electron / Rust / WASM. If I ever get the time to do so... because with only 2-3 hours per week, this will take years.

I hope the rest period allows you to rest and refresh your mind
It would be a shame to abandon an engine that has great potential and could further improve its position among the strongest engines.

Don't worry, I have long decided to take a rest after 9.0 was out. :)
Anyways, I'm not going to abandon chess, I will be working on my skills next instead of Zahak's ;)

And that is why I couldn't sustain it :D

Hahaha, probably or since I am really bad at Rust I might been in compiling face still :D I mean, I had a bad luck with Rust once

Thanks Gabor, Alex Christian and everyone else for your nice words :)

Every engine seems to have their own quirks. Now that Zahak is no longer in active development, Id love to know what kind of interesting stuff does Zahak have in search / eval thats different from other engines. Often it comes down to small details that are hard to appreciate by quickly skimming through code.

Amanj, thanks for everything: ZaTour, the midnight chats, the inspiration, all the energy you've put into both your engine but also the chessprogramming community! Your contributions where impressive and you accomplished a lot in such a short timespan. Enjoy whatever you'll focus on next!
