Magnus lost again today...against a relatively unknown Indian (Murali) who just poked his head about the 2600 mark. Thus far, King Creon has kept his hands off the twitter.

I think we all really know why this is happening and why Nakamura is drawing so many of his games at this tourney...and it has nothing at all to do with 'cheating'.

Oh, and 'BigFish' lost as well...as did 2707 Jorden Van Forrest to the delightful 64 yr old 'relic' Gregory Kaidanov who played the part of a Greek bearing gifts...

Fun stuff!

It's a shame sites like Chessbase have called him the GOAT because it has gone to his head a little bit and he's just an imperfect man, who is good, but not perfect, at chess.
Being the GOAT does not mean you are perfect. Magnus certainly has a very strong claim to the title of GOAT. But name any other candidate and I'll point out a human imperfection.

You are welcome to your spin.

It's really all about the optics if you could not tell - within minutes after the kid scored the biggest win he will ever score in his life. Gee...

Hey, if Benko could don sunglasses to keep Tal's hypnotic gaze from getting to him, perhaps Magnus should keep a pair on him - one never knows when a wind-up mechanical device for telling the time is going to bring the hoodoo for you!

Of course, maybe sunglasses are banned too. Earrings next? Wedding rings?

Carlsen is NOT the same as he was 3 years ago, he is losing too many games to players rated 200 to 300 Elo lower than him. This Indian player is rated 2611 much lower than GM Hans ===> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VCyta_mmz9s

We are lucky to live in an era where you can watch MC play live online bullet, blitz and rapid. I don't mean the major tournaments that are broadcast, but rather the online tournaments that are played just for fun. If you play chess and are above average rating, you will enjoy watching those games more than watching a paid basketball or football game. I remember watching MC play bullet for the first time a few years ago live ... and really there is no question that he is by far the biggest GOAT ever. I am sure if you asked any of the top chess players they would feel the same. Having said that, MC would lose 100-0 to even the number 10 rated engine today. So this is why when players try to level the playing field and start cheating, it really kills the game. It is similar to the notorious female athelete that won marathons by hitching vehicle rides for a large portion of the race. This is why effective anti cheating measures should be taken seriously ... not only for the players sake ... but also to prevent chess losing its appeal as a spectator sport. MC did not have a good tournament (by his standards) and it could possibly be because he was not comfortable with the settings as he clearly was not happy that anti cheating measures were taken seriously. Apparently there were tons of people walking around the halls with smart phones on and there was no delay in transmission. Also players were allowed to wear huge analog watches. Just the idea that someone could be cheating against you is enough to totally change how you play. Everyone who plays online chess has had that feeling that your opponent is cheating ... your play changes dramatically ... you start looking to close the position and you start avoiding unclear tactical lines. The more prize money there is, the more incentive there is to cheat. There must be a strong committed effort to stop that.

Having said that, this open tournament has shown that India will most likely be where the next WCC will come from. Anand has obviously had a huge impact on the game there ... and when you have a pool of 1.4 billion people, there is a good chance that the WCC will come from that pool.

You are correct, India will give us the Next World Champion, but I believe it will be either GM Gukesh, or GM Pragg, anyway here is another 17 years old from India only rated 2515 getting the former World Champion Carlsen ready to say He IS CHEATING, or is it that Magnus is NOT as good as he was 2 years ago ==>https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CoeAAP1zpPY
