If white can win in this position, it must entail sacrificing the queen to take the b5 pawn - but I'm not a strong enough player to work out how you get the win from there. :cry:

White cannot win: there's no way to prevent Bishop a3 (without capturing it), which cuts off the White Queen.

which is what you're supposed to think, but there are some cunning tricks ,,,,

how much help does an SF algorithm clone need to solve this, btw?

very interesting position. it looks like white can win this if black plays sub-optimal moves. however, if black continues to exploit the ideas of d7 for its king and sacrificing its black bishop, then it seems a draw.

I tried Crystal 5KWK and Crystal 8 but I don't think they solve it. They avoid taking the Bishop at the first move but I don't see Black capturing a Queen later so I think no sacrifice is seen? (If I understand correctly that was the idea) Crystal 8 has a low score throughout:

I might be wrong, but I think the queen can still get to a4, the basic strategy for beating the stalemate trap.
