Czubatronic 2400 released: Thorsten Czub’s Capa plays at last

Thanks Roland, and thanks to everyone who has tried Czubatronic so far, especially for testing it under Linux, Wine and Winlator.

A portable version is a good idea. I'll prepare a ZIP version that can simply be unpacked and run without installation.
And please keep the suggestions coming. Czubatronic started as a small tribute project around Thorsten and Capa, but if there are useful little things we can add without losing its character, I'm happy to keep developing it.

As AdminX already mentioned, the installer and the application work perfectly on Linux. I would love to use it at work (on Windows) as well, but I'm not allowed to run an installer. Could you consider creating a portable version (in a ZIP file)?

I fogot to say that the project name is very fun.

Dear chess computer friends,

sorry, but I already have another update. The beeper unfortunately did not work in 0.9.7, and because I currently have a sound problem on my own machine, I couldn't properly test it here.

CZUBATRONIC 2400 0.9.8 Beta is now available. I hope the beep is finally behaving as it should, and I'd appreciate a quick report from anyone who can test it.

Quite a lot has actually changed over the last two releases:



Completely revised console layout, bringing CZUBATRONIC much closer to the look and feel of a dedicated chess computer.
One-piece chassis design: board, clock, engine display, move history and controls now belong visually to the same machine.
New chess clock behind smoked glass, with WHITE/BLACK displays and the time control integrated into the panel.
New dot-matrix engine display, including DISPLAY, TABLE and RAW LOG views.
Physical-style keys, LEDs and control groups replace much of the previous Windows-like interface.
New 2D GLOSSY chess pieces are now the standard piece set.
New move-history panel with dedicated PREV/NEXT controls and move indication during replay.
New CZUBATRONIC message boxes, splash screen and shutdown screen, replacing more of the remaining standard Windows interface.
Resizable hidden panel grips allow the board/panel balance and engine-output/move-history balance to be adjusted.
Scheme-dependent LCD backlighting and optional rotating engine information.
The console now has its own beep: one tone for a move, two for check. This is the part fixed in 0.9.8.
ZUKERTORT is now included as the fourth bundled engine. It is the Johannes Zukertort historical personality from ChessGate, reconstructed from his games and packaged as a standalone UCI engine.
The bundled selection is now CAPA96, Pioneer, Tacticon and Zukertort, while external UCI engines can of course still be loaded.

So the last two versions have been less about adding menus and more about turning CZUBATRONIC into something that increasingly looks, feels and behaves like a real dedicated chess computer.
