Ed you are my myth. I want to thank you and Chris Whittington for Rebel and Chess System Tal that have made interesting my chess life for decades and I'm so grateful that now you are returned to develop for us. Rebel 16.2 is a masterpiece!

You are the fathers of all modern engines!! :D Kind regards, Alessandro Morales (I cant wait to have Rebel 16.3)

Ed Schroeder and Chris Whittington, you are my myths since '95 when I was selling Rebel on my postal shop (Ed should still have my name on his business archive) Thank you for Rebel 16.2 and Chess System Tal 2.0. Very appreciated return!

Could I ask you something?

I'm holding a local tournament on BanksiaGUI between 20+ top engines: Stockfish, Stockfish derivatives and originals like yours.
I already have Rebel 16.2, but Chess System Tal 2.0 is limited only to 1 CPU. For a fair test, could you give me CTS2 with unlocked CPUs? It deserved to be included according to my preliminary tests with only 1 CPU. I will not share it, if you don't want to release a PRO version.

CSTal 2.0 is limited to 2 cores on my system. There's supposed to be a workaround, but I'm not sure what it is.

In console with Chess System Tal 2.00 and with the new Rebel EAS it works like this:
setoption name RelaxThreadLimit value true
info string set RelaxThreadLimit to value true
info string Instability Warning - at your own risk
setoption name Threads value 16
info string set Threads to 16
setoption name Threads value 17
info string set Threads to 17
info string limiting Threads to 16 cores
This is from my 16- core system, even if hyperthreading is set to on, CSTal2 doesn't use more then 16 threads. To get it using 16, RelaxThreadLimit has to be set to true, in console as shown, in Arena and in Shredder- GUI the command can be stored in engine's configuration file, in Fritz it doesn't work, there 8 threads are used as maximum.
With Rebel 16.2 thread-limit didn't have to be changed to make it use as much threads as CPU has, more wasn't possible neither (as far as I know), regards
Peter.

Thank ypu Peter for the help. Download and installed Rebel EAS (internali named Chess System Tal 2.00) on Banksiagui, but with my Core i5 setting 4 CPUs it says "limiting to 1 CPU", differently from all other avx2 engines. I will wait another build. These are my results with old builds:

In Banksia you'll probably have to edit the json- file of the engine, but I didn't try that on my own so far.
In Arena it works with same command like in console.
Arena menu "Engine Management"- "Details" (of selected engine)-"Special"- and in input field "Init String" give in:

Code: Select all

setoption name RelaxThreadLimit value true
Then as many threads as CPU has physical cores (hyperthreading- threads aren't accepted) can be set as maximum to be used in uci- options.
Arena- output after starting the engine with given parameter of 16 threads and the init string of RelaxThreadLimit set to true:
REBEL-EAS id author Chris Whittington and Ed Schroeder (C) 2003-2023
set Hash to 512MB
Hash table set to 512 MB
set Threads to 16
limiting Threads to 8 cores
set RelaxThreadLimit to value true
Instability Warning - at your own risk
Same with CST2.
