The game has at least taught us to cope better with the decisions of other team members where opinions differ.

Moving on now to Chess960,
Matthias.
Thanks for your help in the game.

When do you think we should start the Chess 960 game.

I have never played that game. Should be fun

Best,

Gerold.

Thanks too, Gerold and all other frequent posters in the game thread.

The Chess960 game begins when Ray says so.
If he does choose my engine, the question is whether I should be part of
the human team.
I don't know my engine well enough to predict its moves.
Ray is of course a member of the human team.

Matthias.
My engine was quite strong till I added knowledge to it.

The chess960 game will begin in the next couple of days.

I intend to run BigLion, and I don't see that disqualifying Matthias from taking part. If Biglion was unstable I might want to switch to something else, but hopefully it will be OK. Running it with ponder-on for a match with 24 hrs per move and which may take 2 mths has probably not been done before..

I'm hoping the forum will have a good chance of winning against BigLion, which will make the game more exciting. If people feel a decent chance of winning, and can see an improving position, hopefully they will stick with the game to be in for the kill

Watch out for a new thread when the match starts. I'll post a link to a chess960 random start posiiton generator, and if one person - perhaps Steve - can run it, and then post the starting position, then the human team as white can take the first move.

Matthias I'm not sure if I could be a member of the human team, since I'd be running the computer opponent and would be in a position to see what it is pondering. But since this is a "friendly" match maybe the forum would permit it.

That is indeed a problem :( .

BTW, I hope nobody else will use an engine throughout the game  !

A special thanks to Ray,Matthias and Gerold who voted for moves each and every day and comprised the core of the forum team
they kept the game exciting for more then two months
i think the game proved interesting to many members judging by the view counts which averaged about 150-200 Each day
the R30 will now be stored away..probably not seeing daylight for many years to come

as for your humble operator..
i am taking a much needed break
:P

<------Gone Fishing Regards
Steve
Many, many thanks for running the game Steve!

I have followed it lurkingly. :D

Hope to see another game!

Kind regards,
Jesper

Proposal for kicking off another forum match here, chess960 this time

http://www.talkchess.com/forum/viewtopi ... 062#291062

If that goes ahead, I think Steve may run another conventional chess match against one of his dedicated units after that. (although I worry about the stress a long match puts on those old classics)

So, IS this a record thread (for posts? views? pages? ccc? whole of internet?) etc?

My first question was if this has been a record thread.
Another question is if this entire game can now be presented with reliable (GM-grade, or atleast IM-grade) annotation? (And perhaps with pressable diagram to see the moves)
