i thought the schachakademie would make it because it had ~2000 elo (or less).
i will reset the machine and test it together with the nigel short.
and keep you all informed.
(first i had one machine never tested by myself, now i have 2
but correct me, the GK2100 also does not have those opening-rule functions to switch ON/OFF, or ?
the talking chess academy is unique concerning this strange feature that you can switch on/off some very important rules for the opening.
is there ANY morsch machine having this feature ? i doubt it.
i am sure you will find that the Academy is no clone of another computer
Hallsworth lists it as a separate line item on his rating lists
while clones are listed together on the same line..sometimes as many as 3 computers on the same line
a separate listing means it will have a program that is not identical to other computers that were sold
it will be fairly weaker then the NS which is rated 1987..more then 75 elo higher then the Academy
and also weaker then the Cosmos which is rated 2017

I tend to agree to you, Steve; there is surely some relationship to Morsch programs (the programmer (Craig Barnes?) seems to have copied at least the "look and feel" of the options menue and the display), but on the other hand, there are too many differences, to call it a clone!

The BT2450 testsuite could enlighten us...
best regards,
Robert
yes i imagine you are correct Robert
i think this could be said for practically all computers released my Mephisto/Saitek in the last few years..
they are seem to be the same computers released over and over in different housings
this is one of the main reasons i hardly own any of the newer ones personally
yesterday i checked if he still knows the names of all pieces. yes he still knows. he played a variant : put all the pieces out of the board in one line and put a pawn on top of the rooks
ok - i am testing....
first 3 positions look NOT good.
1.900
2.900
3.812
if this continues the nigel short will slaughter this talking academy.

you know Thor...
you seem to need a break from all of that hard work in your extensive and exhaustive BT testing with the Talking Academy
speaking of talking chess computers(pun intended)
even Ron Nelson who in addition to inventing the first dedicated chess computer also invented the voice chip that is used in dedicated chess computers.. sometimes has time for a walk on the lighter side
only recently he found this on the Internet and sent the link to me:
ron nelson or excalibur should maybe better concentrate on making their products somehow stronger instead of singing, otherwise they will never get me as customer
i wonder how ossi weiner or frederic friedel would make in singing nice folk-songs
