I remember joking some time last year on the Stockfish discord that the next version of Fritz (which I called Fritz 18 at the time) that Chessbase would sell would end up being a copy of Stockfish NNUE with a net trained by Albert Silver. Looks loke it actually happened.

Alayan wrote: Wed Feb 10, 2021 10:53 pm It's shameful that Fat Fritz (Leela variant and Stockfish variant) is marked as an independent engine family on CCRL.
It is marketed with Fritz in the name.

The SF connection can be mentioned in the engine notes.
Lets see what CEGT do in their weekend website updates. Look to see if they have both Stockfish and Fat Fritz 2 on their "Best Versions" list or not.

I don't think there is a right or wrong answer on this. As Graham says, the Stockfish connection will be clearly mentioned in the engine notes, and discussion is ongoing. Fritz is a long-standing brand name family that has had several different authors and flavours over the years, a bit of a chameleon for sure. But the brand name is the constant, and people buy the brand. I think the older generation probably buy the Fritz brand, but I think it will disappear into obscurity as the younger generation behave differently and value open source and free product.

Joost VandeVondele wrote: their distributed binary includes the net, and they thus infringe on our licensing terms as they do not provide the necessary information to recreate the binary with identical functionality. Other aspects of the license are violated as well. We are planning our further steps, which we will not discuss on the mailing list. Yikes. Not really surprising though, if you've been paying attention.

Stockfish has been around for how long? And has had how many code contributors add code of unknown provenance? I have a few minor forks of stockfish in github. I’m going to delete them now before chessbase or their lawyers hit me with an evidence preservation letter. I’d rather buy a Porsche than piss away money like that.

Yuck.
Fat Titz by Stockfish, the engine with the bodaciously big net. Remember: size matters. If you want to learn more about this engine just google for "Fat Titz".

+1 , I would like to see the issue settled in court one way or the other. I hope they get the lawyering they need.

Meanwhile , back at the ranch, this FF2 beater will be free. And the code will be available to ALL. No if ands or buts. No need to spend $99. All changes were made today - over 12 hours or . One can say , I had a little extra motivation today. Combo of Cfish, Bluefish and a couple of lines inspired by Houdini.

First time I ever had a 100% LOS in just over 1000 games. We are only talking 17 lines of code changes in Cfish.

This is now absurd and I don't trust it , will rerun using Cfish-12 from Ronald's Github page.
