We have two new entrants:
Deuterium by Ferdinand Mosca
Mediocre by Jonatan Pettersson

This puts it a 23 entrants to date.

With 14 rounds, we should be able to see a clear winner in a
field of 8,000 to 16,000 entries. So, I'd love to see all the engines
enter. As I understand it, there are over 300 engines that could enter.

It doesn't matter if your program is strong or weak; just enter and enjoy it. With 14 rounds, all engines will match against other engines of their own strength.

Concerning disclosure

Post by sje »

My suggestion for a full disclosure requirement for all entrants, for data both at the ACCL web site and in ICS finger notes:

1. Full hardware details (vendor, model, processor, core count, RAM, etc.)

2. OS in use.

3. ICS interface in use, if not written by the author (e.g., Symbolic uses xboard)

4. Opening book in use, if not written by the author.

5. Tablebases or other endgame assistance in use, if not written by the author.

Hi Steven,

I agree with 5 (tablebases), 4 (book) and OS.

I don't see the issue with ICS interface. Why would that matter?

Do we really need extreme detail in the HW spec (vendor, model)?

My suggestion includes the ICS interface because the interface is a necessary software component and its author should get the credit (or blame).

Reasonable hardware details should be included in part because just using brand names (e.g., "Athlon", "Pentium") without further detail makes it hard to infer relative performance potential. Maybe an even better idea would be to include SPECmark data.
