(Although I should say, although I believe Strelka and Rybka use the same code, I don't know which came first or whether they have a common source.)

Nevertheless, I am enjoying the poll - I find it interesting that opinion is divided in this way. :D

Perhaps we can make a list of questions, somoene who speaks Russian well cansent them to the author, and do a translation for us? How about this for a starter list:

1. People have noticed identical PVs and close to identical scores between a dpeth+2 search in Strekla and a depth search in Rybka. Have you prehaps figured out parts of the Rybka evaluation function and search to explain this similarity?

2. Did you study Rybka source code, or perhaps disassembled Rybka to figure out how it works, and created your own program using these ideas? Did you many study the output of Rybka and deduce how it might work?

3. Are you prehaps actually Vasik, and are pulling a practical joke on the rest of us?

Maybe the best question to ask the author is "Can we send a copy of your source code to Vasik"?

What ? No, Vas should send his sourcecode to us. I'm willing to sacrifice for the team and take a look to his code.

Hey Daniel,

What if, due to your requests, the author (Yuri Osipov) releases his engine as open source, to end this? Everybody happy? Will this solve it somehow?

my guess:
Strelka is clone of Rybka just in the same amount as Rybka is clone of Fruit :-)
take it easy :)

The attitude of Vas to this whole affair is interesting. I am certain that the author is not Vas himself but I think that your suspicions are likely to be very close to the mark.

Hello,

I have no patience for final conclusion from the experts that Strelka 1.8 UCI is clone or not ?!

I am still waiting to start the Strelka test, just becouse my SCCT tournament conditions are:

''All engines must be own original work (its not allowed clones)''

Hurry up guys, the poll expires in 3 Days !!!

What is *your* definition of a clone?
