I'm not sure if that's a joke but I hope it is?! Fruit 2.3 was released less than 24 hours ago...
I don't think it is a joke.
When Rybka 2.3.2a was released i remember at least 2 people in the same day of the release, that have played more than 60 games with it....
After his son's birth they've asked him:
"Is it a boy or girl?"
YES! He replied.....

He also asked:
.what are CEGT and the others doing?
Indicating that it should be formal results from the testing-groups.
Surely that's too much to expect, unless the've tested in advance.

But, yes, I believe we're many who, when possible, can't wait to see some games from new releases, and happyli put something else away to get even some blitz games :wink:
Also, I doubt that most post results from those hometests.

Eduard Nemeth posted a position in the German Schachwerkstatt forum where Fruit 2.3 does not see a mate in 13, but using Marc Lacrosse's parameters Werner Schüle gets a better result. http://f50.parsimony.net/forum202220/messages/26287.htm

Also some people report there they can't get all the new options onto one screen anymore, presumably also not with higher resolution. With I believe around 1180 x 800 I could still get all options visible with Fruit 05/11/03 in Shredder's GUI but I have not yet tested the others, especially Fruit 2.3 that has more options. I test Fruit's options under ChessPartner where UCI-options are entered in a scroll-down menu, that is more comfortable, later for the best ones I make a Shredder version. I usually have a screen resolution of just 800 x 600 because otherwise most text becomes too small unless you have a really big monitor.

Regards, Eelco

P.S. Maybe some of the UCI-options could be combined in a combination menu like this one for Rebel in the wb2uci.eng:

Code: Select all

[EXTRAS]
AntiGM=setvar antigm|spin|0|0|3
Playingstyle=setvar playstyle|spin|2|0|4
Strength=setvar playstrength|spin|2|0|2
Personality=setvar personality C:\Program Files\Rebel\RebelTigerII\engines\ProDeo\personal\%s.eng|combo|Ripley|Ripley|Nolrn|Silver|Test|Excalibur

What would you guys do when chess is solved in 2030 or that Vasik retires himself from computer chess and declares that there's no special way to improve the code and there would still be weaknesses and 3400 is the maximum he could get or that Fabien releases the source code of a 3300 elo Fruit and cloners get tired while trying to improve 3300 Fruit under GPL? :P
or if there would be no releases or updates of new and existing programs?

That's the good and funny scenario :)

If any of these happens,Would you just throw away all of the programs?
Did anyone threw away their cars after the invention of aircrafts? Did Steve B stopped collecting after chess engines that are three times stronger came around? Chess wont be solved in 2030, you want to bet? We would actually be around at that time if everything goes right. I only have one version of Rybka (more like 3, since I have two Strelka's). However, I do have about 10 different versions of Fruit, 6 Toga's and 1 Gambit Fruit. I also have 40 or 50 different crafties and about 10 Arasan's. I see no reason to delete them in the near future.

Okie,I should have worded it properly in my previous post in this thread "Would you just throw away older version of engines and keep the updated ones?"Yeah Okie, Be happy that chess wouldn't be solved by 2030 but please and once again please don't bring Bob in for this discussion :lol:
I delete older versions and keep the updated ones,and if it's a beta I would keep the official current version too just in case beta has bugs or is underperforming.But in that scenario I can see the reason to delete them and keep the updated ones,unless you are really nostalgic about the older version of all the programs.A lot of gamers delete the older Quake 2 and throw away the CD's, then they would get a newer Quake 4 and they begin multi player :)

The way that the collectors feel is probably more like, you do not throw away 14 karat gold, just because you just got some nice new 18 karat gold!
If you are on a sidewalk and the covid goes beep beep
Just step aside or you might have a bit of heat
Covid covid runs through the town all day
Can the people ever change their ways
Sherwin the covid's after you
Sherwin if it catches you you're through

Interesting! Maybe even more interesting, is Werners settings:)

I have big problems with 2.3 options in Shredder and Fritz GUI's. In CA the window is a lot wider than the screen, but I can move it around. Caveat is that most settings is made with sliders, which doesn't allow number-inputs, nor precise reading of the current settings. And I guess that if it was possible, it would be a big job to re-write it for the other GUI's. I don't have CP:(
My screen-resolution is 1280x1024, and eveything is still readable;)

Best,
Henrik

I used the inbetween utility http://home.online.no/~malin/sjakk/ and filtered out the "pawn duo" options.

eg:

Code: Select all

[InBetween]
CommandLine := Fruit23.exe
Log := logfile.log
[Client2Server]
[Server2Client]
option name Pawn Duo := <delete> 20
no need to change my resolution :-)
