Dear Jon,

I m testing some Free UCI SMP version right now and looks like Arasan 10 is among the SMP version :D

Apparently in the UCI option , I didn t have difficulty to add 8 core.

Only 4 for Glaurung
Only 2 for Deep Patzer
SMP version doesn t work for Smash SMP :( (if the author could send me a SMP version would be glad to test it ) because my Smah SMP crashed ...
I don t know if Pharaon has a SMP version ??
Some Toga beta don t know if the SMP version work
Free Naum is not SMP ...
Crafty WB should play with X * cores without problem
Don t know if new scorpio SMP support 8 cores , I will test it

There are out there less than 10 free SMP chess engines ...
I hope there will be more in the near futur to test

Do you know others free UCI and WB SMP engines ? I will be glad to add them for the test.

best Luck to all free chess engines author to add SMP :D (not easy to add and maybe not their first priority )

Thanks

Daniel

For Deep Pharaon SMP 4 cores
Scorpio SMP 4 cores

I don t know if they could accept more cores

Thanks

I think that unless authors can actually test on 8 cores, they will likely to restrict their engines to 4. And not too many people have 8-core machines at the moment

It was to answer to Sedat good question .

Which chess engines support fully 8 cores ??

1/ for sure Zappa Mexico, Rybka , Deep Junior , Deep fritz they were tested on 8 cores or more in the last 3 months

2/ ??? Arasan , Crafty, Toga beta ???

3/ Support 4 cores Scorpio, Glaurung, Deep Pharaon

4 / Support 2 cores Deep Patzer , maybe Smash SMP ??

Why are you actually not testing the engines under 8 core to see if it actually supports 8 cores? Glaurung Supports 8 cores, but is actually slower according to Tord. Why the guessing game?

Arasan in theory supports up to 16 cores (MAX_CPUS=16 in config.h).

But it does not have a very efficient SMP implementation so will not make maximal use of more processors. I haven't tested it with more than four threads active.

I am working on a more efficient threading implementation but am making only slow progress.

Tyan is also an SMP engine, and a strong one too.

Hello Jon,

Currently i canceled Arasan 10 t4 test at SCCT,due to many losses on time (this happens with both wb/uci protocols)
http://www.sedatchess.com/scct_ratinglist.html
Have you ever tested Arasan 10 using 4 theads ?
