Here is my logic behind it Mathias... I usually combine all my pgns before I create a rating list. If you combine the rating list using games from A 1200 and Q 6600, you need something to bridge it. So they chose some reference engines that already have an established rating and play them against the new beasts. Looks to me like an easy way of adding engines to the rating list. Suppose I am trying to add about 100 new engines to my rating list, if I play a tournament with only those 100 engines, and if one of the engines happen to be a somewhat strong engine, then when I combine and create a Bayesian list it could end up at the number one spot if I do not add any refernce engines.Matthias Gemuh wrote:Norm Pollock wrote: Apples against oranges. No !! The SSDF guys do know that it is not "apples against oranges".
It is at most big apples against small apples.
They simply lack enough Q6600 machines. A donation would reduce the chances of seeing "apples against oranges".
