Spyware Doctor is excellent. I often see it identify malware that other programs have missed. I use it conjunction with Norton AntiVirus on a seven computer network here, and we not had an infection in the last 3-4 years.

Norton was for years dedicated anti-virus, it's been recently that they have addressed spyware, adware, etc. Spyware Doctor is and has always been dedicated to anti-spyware, and looks to be the cream of the crop.

A good tip:
when installing the OS, create at least two partitions, for ex: C: and D:
Make sure C is big enough for the OS with plenty of room to spare, for ex: XP->usually at least 10 GB...
Install the operating system on C:, and subsequently place all data, documents, music, photos, etc. only on D.
C = system drive , D = data drive

unfortunately, many applications like iTunes, chessbase, etc., use My Documents as the default data store, and XP creates My Documents by default on C:, but this can all be changed with some configuration work.

then, if a reformat and re-install of XP is absolutely necessary, the process is quick and painless.
