Spyware Doctor is excellent. I often see it identify malware that other programs have missed. I use it conjunction with Norton AntiVirus on a seven computer network here, and we not had an infection in the last 3-4 years.swami wrote:Get the AVG or Avast Anti Virus.. Also don't forget to use the system store to restore your system back to the day when there was no virus in the system.
Norton was for years dedicated anti-virus, it's been recently that they have addressed spyware, adware, etc. Spyware Doctor is and has always been dedicated to anti-spyware, and looks to be the cream of the crop.
A good tip:
when installing the OS, create at least two partitions, for ex: C: and D:
Make sure C is big enough for the OS with plenty of room to spare, for ex: XP->usually at least 10 GB...
Install the operating system on C:, and subsequently place all data, documents, music, photos, etc. only on D.
C = system drive , D = data drive
unfortunately, many applications like iTunes, chessbase, etc., use My Documents as the default data store, and XP creates My Documents by default on C:, but this can all be changed with some configuration work.
then, if a reformat and re-install of XP is absolutely necessary, the process is quick and painless.
