No luck on the Super VIP serial connection. I'll have to get some more equipment and try again later.

I have no idea, and I don't care. More below.BubbaTough wrote:Understood. Just out of curiousity, any idea what interface is used when your program participates in tournaments such as CCT10?
I can participate in all the tournament I care about: Over-the-board tournaments. Online tournaments have very little interest to me. When someone else operates Glaurung during an online tournament (which happened during one of the two latest CCTs, I am not sure which), it is not really someone operating on my behalf, but rather someone wanting to participate in the tournament using my program. Because Glaurung is free (in the GPL sense), anyone can do this, as long as the tournament rules allow it. If time permits, I may supply the operator with a few words of advice about things like program settings and opening books, but I probably wouldn't bother to follow the tournament or even look up the final results. It seems like an unfortunate consequence of your philosophy that you cannot participate in tournaments, only operators on your behalf.
If I did care about the CCT and other online tournaments, I would simply add ICC support to my program.
A better analogy would be with Jewish people who won't turn on or off their own lights during the Sabbath, but don't care what non-Jewish people do in their homes. I don't care what interfaces the participants in the CCT use, regardless of whether they happen to use my engine. It reminds me a little of some Jewish people I used to know that could not turn on/off lights during the Sabbath but had no objection to a shabbos goy doing it for them.

To quibble, I think this is the same analogy. Jewish people are not supposed to ask for or care about the lights to be turned on or off on Sabbath. Thus, it sounds like we understand each other exactly (except perhaps about Jewish tradition). Nothing wrong with including a polyglot file just in case other people are so inclined.A better analogy would be with Jewish people who won't turn on or off their own lights during the Sabbath, but don't care what non-Jewish people do in their homes. Glad to hear you are enjoying all the tournaments worth caring about. Nothing good ever happens on Saturday anyway....just ask Reshevsky.
