Just read about the correct numbering:

4. Win NT 4.0
5. Win 2000
5.1(!). XP (you can see it, if you enter the command "ver" at the DOS prompt)
6. Vista
7. Win 7

Robert
Thx Robert, I understand the number, now ...
It's true that Vista was out quite shortly after Win2000 !

Octo = 8
Nov = 9
Dec = 10
There was a time when the year begun on march ...
If my memory from high school social studies (which is just 1 year ago for me) serves me, it is because two Roman rulers decided to put their names into the calendar (July and August I believe, Augustus and Juilius Caesar).

Forget Windows 7 which is really Vista crippled!

The true Windows ver. 7 will not be available for a couple more years, I suspect ~2011.

Microsoft should correct it's worse mistake since Windows ME by then.

I'm very disappointed that I'm stuck with Vista until that time.

I'm stuck as I bought an HP with Vista preloaded and my support is through HP.

Well, time to try and save until then.

Are you running 64-bit Vista? Works very well for me and I was able to use 64-bit media with my (valid) 32-bit Vista Ultimate key. Performs very nicely indeed, and obviously I can run 64-bit chess engines and develop for x64.

Cheers,

Is it true that Vista is XP crippled? If so we're 1 step backwards and 2 steps back...

I'm not sure it's the reason ...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/March
The name of March comes from ancient Rome, when March was the first month of the year and called Martius after Mars, the Roman god of war.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/January
Although March was originally the first month in the old Roman Calendar, January assumed that position beginning in 153 BCE when the two consuls, for whom the years were named, began to be chosen on January 1.
Of course I'm using 64bit Vista. No point in using 64bit processors...4 of them without it.

Vista Sux!

XP64 would have been my choice if given the option.

Well all versions of Windows suck in some way - but what can you do? Linux is a reasonable alternative (using it at work now as the primary development workstation environment) but you still need to run Windows at home don't you... well you do if you like games.

But who said a computer can only run one OS?

I have a Windows installation around just to play games, and trust all my serious work to Linux.
