Could be, although I think that derivatives is a more accurate term than clones.
Either word works equally well. Clone and Derivative have many definitions several of which overlap.

Hi Kenny-

i don't see how the definitions overlap at all...
clone means the same (identical), derivative means different (derived from)...?
can you explain...?

That was my take too when I made my original statement.

The so called clones out there are not 'identical' to what they were cloning. Its no different from what are now termed as derivatives. A few lines of changes here and there.

All the same - non-original work.

google is your friend:

Code: Select all

Definitions of clone on the Web:

ringer: a person who is almost identical to another
a group of genetically identical cells or organisms derived from a single cell or individual by some kind of asexual reproduction
make multiple identical copies of; "people can clone a sheep nowadays"
knockoff: an unauthorized copy or imitation
A video game clone is a video game or game series which is very similar to or heavily inspired by a previous popular game or game series.

Of course I understand that the current crowd likes to attach heavy connotations to some words. However, I do not use the words in a derogatory manner

Just looking at the gap between it and Toga 1.4.1 SE makes me feel dazzy
