Re: Rules for the Knockout

Perhaps I've not been paying attention but could you please indulge me and explain the rules?

I understand 40 moves in 40 minutes. But:

How many games are played in each round by each Engine?
Does each engine only play the opponent's one from the corresponding group?

I guess the team with the most points overall goes through to Round 2 and the loser is eliminated?

Sorry if you've maybe said all of this before!
Hi Darren,

I was thinking that 16 game matches might be the way to go with each engine from one team playing a game against all engines in the other team.
In case of an 8-8 draw, I'm thinking that the top engine in each team would play sudden death until a result was achieved.

Cheers,
Graham.

Because I'm using the ChessGUI team fight tournament feature, the matches will consist of 32 games, so that each engine plays both white and black against all opponents.

The Quarter Final matches are underway. Progress reports twice a day from the link given.

Hi Graham,
by using such rather dormant features as team fight, you are making even greater publicity 4 ChessGUI

BTW, I silently uploaded version 0.157 !

Best,
Matthias.
My engine was quite strong till I added knowledge to it.

Thanks Matthias.

I was hoping to run only 16 game matches, but I couldn't find a way to alternate colours for engines unless I clicked 'alternate colours'. This then makes each pair of engines play twice with alternate colours when you have 1 cycle selected.
Still a great feature though. :)

Cheers,
Graham.

The groups of teams available for selection were very even in strength on purpose. :)
Good luck in the semis.

Yeah that only goes to show you how close the contest is between the evenly matches engines.

I expected better from ChessTiger. It didn't play like a first category engine at all. With more games, it could do better though.
