After 18 of 40 games the score is:

Code: Select all

N Engine Pts SB Rybka 4.1 Houdini 1.5a

1 Rybka 4.1 10.0 80.00 + 4 = 12 - 2
2 Houdini 1.5a 8.0 80.00 + 2 = 12 - 4
In the on-going game 19 Houdini is heading for a win which would bring
it to -1 and close the gap. The game is excellent btw (26...h4!).

Standings after 23 of 40 games:

Code: Select all

N Engine Pts SB Houdini 1.5a Rybka 4.1

1 Houdini 1.5a 12.0 132.00 + 5 = 14 - 4
2 Rybka 4.1 11.0 132.00 + 4 = 14 - 5
Houdini has played like a maniac the last few rounds, right now it seems unstoppable.

My very first chess computer was turbo king 2.
It seemed a little bit better than many others i tested it against...... manually.

However, i always hoped a chess computer would be just a little better, and would play like a real GM. I mean with all these sacrifices based on judgement plus deep tactics. All these historic human games, i wished to see those very world champions in front of me.
I was never satisfied with any new program. They didn't pass my tests.

Rybka, and even more, Houdini, i think, has just about seemed to have become around the first one which actually plays that kind of chess, which i have been waiting for.

I don't claim to know how they does it, but it seems that they play these world champion-level historic moves and games.

Even though there may still be a long way to go, to maximise computer potential, and there may still be a couple of things that a human can laugh about over Houdini, i think it is nevertheless, "one of the boys" already!
AND, it's computerized and you can even put it by your bedside.

Yes great comeback for Houdini. My predition to end result: 21,5-18,5 for Houdini. Rybka 4.1 improvement over 4 is quite modest at latest CCRL and CEGT. CCRL single 40/4 +7 but in FRC 40/4 -15! and in CEGT 40/20 dual +11 and quad +36.

I think that the playing level is something like 5 levels over human possibility.
