but to get back to the 32/64 "debate", you do realise that we're in 2012 and that 64 bit CPUs have been around since 2003. In the world of computers, 2003 is like paleolithic...Graham Banks wrote:Yes - DoubleCheck gains automatic promotion to a higher division.lucasart wrote:anyway i suppose all these engines have an inefficient 32 bit code, so they are "equally disadvantaged"Graham Banks wrote:Yes - congratulations on the win.lucasart wrote:Happy to see my DoubleCheck winning something
Although remember 32 bit version is significantly weaker than 64 bits, unless the programmer goes an extra mile to do some 32 bit optimisations (which most amateur engine authors don't do).![]()
I'm currently the only CCRL tester focusing on maintaining the 32-bit list. All of the other testers are focused on the 64-bit engines, but prefer to run gauntlets rather than tournaments.
does that mean i qualify to play in division 6 next time ?
If your computer runs only 32 bit programs, it's because you're using a crappy operating system (32 bit windows), that artificially restrict you from using the power of your i5 CPU!
A bit silly, don't you think ?
My point is that you guys (testers of CCRL, CEGT etc.) are already testing 1CPU, 2 CPU, 4CPU, which multiplies by 3 the testing work! So if on top of that you do 32 and 64, you multiply by 6 the testing effort. It would make sense to drop the 32 bit, and use your time to either: double the number of games to obtain more precision, or test new engines quicker. Anyway, up to you!
