When ChessGUI thinks that an unfair opening line has been played, it is set to restart the game with a different line.
This happens if both sides believe that a line is favourable to one side (0.70+) for the first 11 or 12 moves out of book.

ChessGUI is much probably the best GUI for engine vs. engine matches. A shame that it would need some graphic designer working on it because sincerely is absolutely awful graphically speaking (and this I'm sure put a lot of users aside).Graham Banks wrote: Yes, and the parameters for it can be set by the user too.
I understand the author is working on the GUI as a sort of beta project, but it has great potential.

Re: Round 1
Yes, but in this case I am not sure it worked well.
Despite being pawn down Nebula had a tempo and was able to exchange all the heavy pieces and reach the pawn down endgame with 2 minors each.
I am 100% certain it would proceed to lose that endgame, but the endgame might have been drawish for engines of similar strength.

Hi Graham,
the logic in the implementation of this option is buggy.

Stop using the option in tournaments where engines swithch sides and replay same openings. The bug shall be fixed !
The problem is: ChessGUI can stupidly flag an opening as unfair in second game even after the engines had found it fair in first game before swithching sides. If the engines found the opening fair before swithching sides, ChessGUI should not test for fairness after engines switch sides.
My engine was quite strong till I added knowledge to it.

Sudden death in tied knockout matches would be more useful.

ChessGUI is great for engine v engine testing!

Re: Ponziani Swiss 8CPU
Wow! it's a good idea, to play an opening which ANYWAY gives a good game, but MUST be played accurately by opponent, which he might not do if he doesn't know it.Graham Banks wrote:I play it and have an interest in it.Carotino wrote:Hi Graham,
A very interesting tournament.
Why the Ponziani? There is a particular interest in this old opening?![]()
I'd be prepared to play more thematics if enthusiasts of various openings were prepared to provide me with a small pgn file that I could use to create an opening book from.
I take it every GM has to know it perfectly, OR can work it out over the board, and therefore against them one would choose a different opening.
Or maybe not?
When it becomes very popular, you have to find a different opening for similar benefits.
In fact, why ever bother learning up the well known openings?

Totally agree, Fabio. It has the best thought-out features, but terrible if you want to sit there and watch the games. The viewer is nice however, but as far as I can tell it can only be used to view remote games, the way Graham is doing it.Lavir wrote:ChessGUI is much probably the best GUI for engine vs. engine matches. Can the viewer be set up for locally run tournaments?
