Don't ask.

So when to use SEE and when to use MVV/LVA ?

I can imagine MVV/LVA takes less time to compute.
The point is that mvv/lva removes big pieces first. Those are the most likely to go on a "foraging spree" and blow the tree up. MVV removes the big pieces first, the ones that are most likely to blow up the q-search...

I used to use SEE myself, but changed to this when others suggested it and testing proved it to be significantly better.

Don't worry, it is a Dutch "van" which is not an indication of nobility.

Henk, de meeste mensen hier willen anderen zoals jij best op weg helpen. Wat ze niet willen is co-auteur worden van jouw programma. Succes.

Joke aside, Henk, don't you understand why people are starting to feel annoyed with your beginner questions ? Beginner questions are answered everywhere on the Internet. If you would only google for them you would get an immediate answer for most of them. But no, you prefer other people to do this simple job for you. Of course people feel this is abusive. This whole thread is a developed version of the RTFM acronym.

Well, actually I don't understand it. There are people here that are willing to answer such questions. It is easy enough to not answer them for those who are not willing. So why should they object?

That these threads get out of hand, sizewise, which could annoy threaded-view readers, is only due to all those unwilling to answer, and feeling the need to express their unwillingness, sometimes in most unfriendly ways. They are basically annoying themselves.

As far as I am concerned, there are only 3 posts that have a right to be in this thread. Henk's original one, plus mine and Bob's reply to it. The rest are trolling or worse. If these are from the people that get annoyed, they deserve what they get!

It would be a very sad day indeed if people could not ask any computer-Chess-related question on TalkChess...
