I think it is whether the player is still connected to the ICS. Some participants logged out immediately after the tourney was finished, before I printed the result table.

ArasanX played Ba3 and to my surpise resigned ! WaDuuttie thinks he is only slightly better and certainly not winning yet ... so what did ArasanX see ?
Black is in zugzwang and at fist glance it looks like this position is completely lost for black. Maybe Arasan already saw this?
Nightmare thinks the position is +1.5 for White and doesn't see a win either, my guess is that it has something to do with null-move.

Yes, Komodo is very smart, like a human.

Every good chess player sees immediately that Black is dead lost, many engines just don't find it because there is zugzwang (null-move).

It seems (even) Komodo needs considerable depth to to see this. Pretty impressive if ArasanX finds it in a 5'+1" blitz game!

Yes, that exact thought occurred to me as well. AransanX was running on 20 or more cores I think, but lots of cores is useless if you don't have the intelligence as well.

It takes Stockfish three and a half mins to get +5.5 on my machine, and five and a half minutes to get to +10

From my winboard.debug file (just before Arasan resigns):

Code: Select all

ArasanX(2041)(C) kibitzes: time=20.35 sec. score=-7.33 depth=34 nps=6.08M egtb=55443/55625 cpu=548.11%
