Harvey, in your picture of this years competitors, they seem to have been swallowed up by the London fog? Or did the players have to do a mannequin test for their tournament numbers and during this there was another black-out in Picadilly Square :) ?

99 Minutes in normal mode.

Debugging is twice as hard as writing the code in the first
place. Therefore, if you write the code as cleverly as possible, you
are, by definition, not smart enough to debug it.

Hi Peter! Thanks for checking with Stockfish and Sting to compare. I think mine was a bit unlucky run but even a few plies earlier will not get me a great result. It is curious if I check the main line, there seems to be a King attack going on with White still slightly behind in material, Rook against Bishop. But if it is King safety points, White is not supposed to get any because he has no queen anymore (Edit: Wait, not true, White has to have the equivalent of at least a queen to get King Safety points so that is still possible for a while). So how does he get to 1.4 (Stockfish development version) or even 1.97 in a run I just had with Serpent? I do not understand fully, it must be hidden in the part of the PV I don't see. Maybe the other engines have rules for King Safety still being calculated even if the side to move has no queen. Also the material imbalance alone may play a small role, two knights against queen in the start position but White does not give up anything, it is Black that loses his Bishop pair and that loses him some extra points in Rainbow Serpent (very minor), but it can't have an influence on the PV if it is only Black losing points. The difference in King Safety is more likely I have noticed before that if you calculate KS only for one side (Black still has a queen), Serpent is not very good sometimes. It messes with improving factor and indirectly with nullmove if you use 'improving' there. Although technically it is not an asymmetry, if you switch side to move only, mirroring the eval in nullmove is not the big problem (I think).
Debugging is twice as hard as writing the code in the first
place. Therefore, if you write the code as cleverly as possible, you
are, by definition, not smart enough to debug it.

SF comes off pretty bad here. very quick to give Nc6 a poor eval and still cant find a winning move. until ~d40 or whatever)

this time already winning, but still best move. houdini seems to be the only top 3 engine w/ the eval to find it quickly...
