WinBoard log

Post by RubiChess »

Thanks for the tourney. It was a little strange this time, you may know what I mean :-)

I have another question cause I had a crash of my engine in a test match right before the tourney:
Is Winboard (I am using 4.8.0b) writing any log containing the UCI communication with the engine? I didn't find one but maybe there is one in some hidden folder?
Or is there any log on the server side? The match in question is RubiChess vs. atomGoldbar finished 19:23 cet which was nearly won with a mate-in-4 position but then Rubi crashed. Or the crash happened when the next game was started by the GUI (CoronaChessVirus iirc.) and Rubi may still have searched on the mate-in-4 position. That's what I'm trying to find out with the logs.

Thanks and regards,
Andreas

I will get better hardware and install egtb - to make sure my name stays on the top always. In it to win it.
Huge respect for people with own engines and ideas.
Haha, maybe try to write your own engine first. It's not a very big accomplishment to beat other engines with Stockfish 14.
The tourney is open for everything, but it is more or less meant to be for programmers testing their engines.
Indeed, I don't write my own engine, and I enter with the intention NOT to win because I believe that honour belongs to the engine authors themselves. I prefer to use interesting engines, for example last time I ran the ancient but ex-world champion Zappa Mexico on modern hardware as an experiment. I haven't been able to enter for a while as I don't have access to my machines at the moment, but should be back in the new year.

UCI engines run through the Polyglot adapter, and the latter has an option PolyglotLog (which can be set through the Engine Settings dialog). But it will be off by default, so I guess you are out of luck. And I am also not sure whether it conains the verbatim log of the adapter-engine communication.

The server cannot see the engine-GUI communication; it only records the game.

The polyglot log was disabled as you predicted. I have enabled it now, maybe useful in the future.

Anyway, thanks for the answer.

I always run with debug mode turned on (-debugMode true in Winboard/xboard or -debug in icsdrone). With Winboard/UCI you won't see the UCI traffic I think because that goes through polyglot, but you may see other info of use.

It depends upon Lisebeths schedule, she only has the opportunity to manage it once in 2 weeks. We try to organize the tournament each 4 weeks, at a certain point (when it gets too early in a month) we have to skip 2 additional weeks.
