Another I just noticed. CB16 is acting all weird, crashing and when I go to update program I get errors?

I just restarted laptop and update was fine.

Same here (Berlin, Germany). Worked without any problems: Fritz 18 GUI updated to version 6, when I started it. Then Fritz 18 nnue was installed.
Free major engine-update and engine not copy-protected. You can copy the engine to any new folder or new machine.
Very nice ChessBase!

The nnue-net must be very small, because the engine-file is only 2.1 MByte...and the old Fritz 18 engine is 1.1 MByte in size.

Where is the new engine? In what folder?
On windows 64-bit: (default installation path) C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\ChessBase\Engines.uci\Fritz 18

I hope this helps.

It seems they've updated the full game analysis feature too.

Instead of some numeric score ("Black 0.36, White 0.45" or whatever) at the end of the game analysis, it said something like: "Draw. A surprising result, since black outplayed white after the opening."

A nice little touch imo.

C:/programs(x86)/common files/chessbase/engines.uci

(perhaps the folder is hidden, you have to change your explorer-settings, so, that it shows hidden files/folders)

Who cares about this Fritz 18 Neuronal engine when there are plenty of free NNUE/NN engines?

Hi purechess,

a lot of people ...

Not the quatity of engines or the playing strength of an engine is important.
The playing style of an engine is much more interesting.

Engines by Frank Schneider (Gromit, Anaconda, now Fritz 17 / Fritz 18 / Fritz 18 NN) are all the time very interesting. The style is very speculative in mid-games. Very nice for self playing chess and the possibilities / features chessbase offer in the own GUI.

How many other engines are available, free available or not never was important.
How many other engines are stronger , free available or not never was important.

Maybe for a small group of persons, not for "engine lovers".
For the small group of persons, like playing strength only ... a lot of Stockfish clones are available.
All do the same.

For every group of persons ... today are nice things available!

Best

While I was somewhat disappointed with the result, I was very impressed with this game. Well played attack by Fritz met by well played defense by Hiarcs.

Frank Quisinsky wrote: Thu Mar 31, 2022 7:32 pm Hi purechess,

a lot of people ...

Best
