but I doubt those first 99, shouldn't White be able at least to cut some triangles (which are multiangles with the Bishop always) with early h4 of its own?

Re: White to move and force mate in 81
The key to this study is that White must capture both of black pawns on h file and cannot play f4 during the triangulation, or it will draw. If White plays h4 early, White will have to play f4 to capture all of black pawns on h file, then it draws.peter wrote: ↑Thu Jul 06, 2023 9:35 amI doubt those first 99, shouldn't White be able at least to cut some triangles (which are multiangles with the Bishop always) with early h4 of its own?Hobacle wrote: ↑Thu Jul 06, 2023 12:27 amThe small solution:

Still looking for a way to avoid the stalemate by sacrificing the Bishop just in time to give Black's again free pawn three more moves, which would be enough for the original mate at a1 again, here's one example with Black blundering at 25...a2??:

Re: White to move and force mate in 81
I know, Hobacle, any other move except ...a2 would be still ok for Black there too, that's why I gave 25...a5 the ??, just wanted to show the principle of the Bishop- sac I meant, but...
... that way as shown in Black's blunder- line abovew doesn't work if White is forced to f4 too soon, which happens now and then because of Zugzwang from this side too, (BTW 3fold threatens here and there too already) and it doesn't work with pawn still on f3 neither, the Bishop then cannot get to h5 soon enough for its own sacrificing, so what, regards
Peter.
