Ray, I think it is possible that Scorpio's Opening.per has something to do with it. I looked inside it, it has all these options for prunings, capture extensions etc, may be scorpio thought it was in trouble. It is also possible that there is a bug in Scorpio time management that gets confused due to the modestly high increment. Another possibility is that Scorpio does something similar to Crafty when it comes to time managment, Crafty has an option inside Crafty.rc to dictate the amount of time usage few moves out of the book. It is Fischer by the way, takes after Robert (bobby) who applied for the patent for the clock. I guess most of us spell his name incorrectly.Spock wrote:Not sure....Ovyron wrote:
By the way, is it "Fisher" or "Fischer"?
I thought it was Fischer but the ChessPartner GUI also refers to it as "Fisher:"
With Fischer (or Fisher) time controls you see some interesting stuff. Like in my recent 90+30 small tournament, Scorpio 2.0 though it necessary on more than one occasion to spend 45 minutes on the first move out of book...
More low quality games or few better quality games?

Well it was 90+30 ponder on, and each games was about 4 hours long. So out of 240 minutes total thinking time, I guess 40 minutes on the first move can be justified. In some games it only spent 10 minutes on it's first move. So, I would guess that it was only where the opening was complex or it thought it had a disadvantage out of book, it spent the time. You could say it makes a lot of sense. My point was that at 40/40 repeating you tend not to see things like that, so with the uncertainty of a Fisher time control you can see some interesting thingsTony Thomas wrote: Ray, I think it is possible that Scorpio's Opening.per has something to do with it.
