I simply dont think that you are stating the truth. They have even put keyword ban in registration forms in sign up pages, that is for example the software would automatically ban someone who tries to register under the name, for say, "Rohan", just because they had banned someone else with that name before. Weird.
They look desperately for traffic by posting into other forums by putting in some opinion about CCC and supporting their club and inviting others to go over there, but only engine release news have been posted so far in most of the threads in gap of what seems like months between each topic.
Is it the end to a great forum??

No, I never said they encouraged others to join, please read the above quote again, Tony. They encourage other posters from CCC to go over to winboard and start discussing there just because there have been intense disagreement or crisis or high number of smileys used or whatever, I'm absolutely being honest.Tony Thomas wrote:I simply dont think that you are stating the truth. Show me some evidence, I am not a fan of too many smileys, unless I am trying to be goofy. Volker hardly ever posted here..swami wrote:No, I never said they encouraged others to join, please read the above quote again, Tony. I understand that my opinion is unexpected, but I vote to NOT revive Winboard forum.
What we need is read only archive for Winboard and CCC programming subforums with working search function. I doubt that wiki can ever substitute years of past discussions.

Well, I would certainly like to see the Winboard forum live on but I completely agree with your 2nd point: The programming subforum should be saved by all means (and no, I wasn't one of those who tried to download the whole forum ...).Aleks Peshkov wrote:I understand that my opinion is unexpected, but I vote to NOT revive Winboard forum.

Ok I take back what I'd said and apologize but I was kind of getting that impression from some of his other posts where this forum had been criticized but i don't plan to do search again.

Re: Is it the end to a great forum??
Volker and others there have always been nice to me. I wonder though, given the decline in traffic, if it would make sense to make the best of the content available and searchable but not keep it as an active forum. In their 400MB there is sure to be a lot of posts you wouldn't want to save for any reason - they were just transient discussions or announcements. But there was a series of very active discussions there on bitboards that in particular are valuable, and otehr good things. Maybe this content should be donated to a site that is still active, like the chess programming wiki (http://chessprogramming.wikispaces.com/). Or perhaps this forum could host some archived discussions (not the whole 400MB) from the Winboard forum.
