What i did- before clicking ok to load the engine, i clicked on parameters and changed them at that time, before loading. Then they were the default parameters. Of course that required me to add something to the name- anything- it doesnt matter. So by JA in the name i added Build so the name said "JA Build" Now i have 1 thread as default in parameters and never have to worry with changing the parameters for using 1 CPU. Did this method cause it to work right and just use 1 cpu? I dont know. I never tried it the other way. It works, so that was enough for me.
Best,
Thanks for your help too George. I'll let you know whether it was Jim's cygwin build or your method (or both) that did the trick once I get around to installing Stockfish on another machine.
Jim - I had this same problem with the latest version of Grapefruit also.
Any chance of a cygwin version for that too?
Regards, Graham.
Hi Graham,
Later Toga versions on which Grapefruit is based dropped Linux support,
so no POSIX pthread support in code only Windows threads, so cygwin build
not possible without converting Windows threads to Pthreads.
Here's a Win32 Gcc (Mingw) series 4 build you might like to try.
Is there interest in a posix port of GrapeFruit? What new search features does GrapeFruit have?
Hi Michel,
Yes, I remembered your fine work porting Toga to Linux just after I submitted the post, sorry
If Graham still has problems, I'll patch your Posix thread code to Grapefruit and compile a cygwin build for him.

I had the same problem with Deep Sjeng on that machine. Using George's suggestion solved the problem.
