Confusing in what situation? When scores are from white's point of view, or when scores are from the engine's point of view? I get a bit confused in engine vs engine matches when scores are from white point of view, but I could probably get used to it.SzG wrote:For me it is extremely confusing when both engines show a positive score.
However, your post and my reply to it show that we are both thinking from such an artificial and strange perspective that our opinions just don't count. Try to think about this from the perspective of an ordinary user: What does "both engines" mean? Most people have no idea what a chess engine is; they are just playing against (or analysing with) a chess program, without being aware of the distinction between the engine and the user interface. Even more technical users who understand that the chess engine is the part of the program that does the actual computations would usually be confused by the phrase "both engines". Both?? Isn't there only one engine??
People who run matches between chess programs is an extremely tiny minority among the people who use chess programs, and it is tinier still on handheld platforms where such matches must be played manually. What sign convention is least confusing when running computer vs computer games is therefore a very unimportant consideration when deciding what convention to use.
