You've been around here since 2006 and don't know what CSTal is??? :P

A very aggressive engine from a long time ago with an awesome playing style. I don't think it's available any more. Other people could tell you a lot more about it.

Peter
It was not that aggressive. Ultimately it was pretty spineless. Maybe that is why I'd like to see Crafty destroy it. It would be no less than it deserves.

Cstal was NOT designed to play computer vs computer! So yes Crafty will eat it. However, versus humans it is delightful. For that reason I still consider it one of my favourites.

Tell me, If we saw that Houdini 1.03 had crushed SF heavily, would you have then prefered Houdini-Rybka straight on?

Well, yes my fun is to see brilliant moves, combinations, plans and so the best engines provide this. But like in super-GM tournaments those brilliancies are cancelled by opponent most of the times and we have finally some lenghty draws (manoeuvering within the limit of 50 moves rule) that become boring. Still some games are truly magnificent and it's enough for me to see those matches anyway. I would like to see again R4 vs Houdini, R4 vs SF, Houdini vs SF but for the sake of diversity and to see some more fireworks I prefer the round robin option for now.

I don't think any engine can rival R4 at this time control (and even the low amount of games played doesn't convince me otherwise). They have potential to be on par with R4 but not yet (many games lost where they could have drawn easily or where they were better). The round robin tournament will give a more balanced outcome and more brilliant moves :)
