Hi all

after 11 games, Houdini is 1point/game in front. 6 points Houdini, 5 points Junior.
For me this is a verry surprising result. I thought this match would be a desaster to Junior. But Junior plays indeed a verry strong match and could even win 2 games. Surprising also that both did blunder a game.
I hope that most who follow this match understand, that it is nothing more than this match ;-) It is not meant by me to show or proove anything else. And I think many of you can agree that both participants show great games.

kind regards Clemens Keck

Yes, the match is very interesting althought it only proofs that dj performs much much better at long time control than at blitz. Having watched so many long games of dj i think that it needs a huge amount of time. I think 60+15 for example is not enough, having seen that sometimes 180+0 is not enough.

Could you try another match against Rybka? i Think Rybka could have better results against Junior, i think Junior is well tuned against Houdini.

Best Regards

Junior played 54. -b5?? Thanks for Kurt Utzinger to PGN.

Wow,I've read many statements related to Junior's weak endgame technique but this move is so unexcpected from a top chess engine nowadays
even my stupid program DoubleCheck 2.5.3 settles for b6 after less than 0.01 second...
i don't know if b6 is the best move here, but at least it makes sense intuitively to prevent Kc5 from white, and with correct play this position should be a draw, right?
Wrong,DoubleCheck is not stupid :D

And yes,b6 makes a lot of sense indeed....

Thanks Doc :D

Well DC isn't really "stupid", and it certainly beats the crap out of me, but compared to other programs it's a long way behind. My own blitz rating list (1min+1sec) shows that DC is 800 elo below Critter 1.4 for instance. A long way to go indeed...

But to get back to the game, would you agree that after b6 the game (with correct play on both sides) should be a draw ?

Absolutely....

I don't see a better move than b6 to prevent the white king from occupying the c5 square.....Kd6 is also a horrible move at least after taking a quick glance at the chess board....should ponder a little bit longer....

YES, a match vs Rybka would be intresting, I think Rybka will do much better than houdini.
But the match I am most interested is Komodo MP vs Houdini 2.0c pro!
