Some information from the actie forum help page. It does look like you have to pay for ad removal.
PURCHASES AND REFUNDS
actionforum.com offers users optional paid services, such as "packages", domain name, or ad removal. By subscribing to one of these services, the user agrees to pay the actionforum.com monthly or annual subscription fee. Payments are made in advance on the day he purchases the service and cover its use for the chosen monthly or annual subscription term.
The purchase of products and services from actionforum.com entitles the buyer to withdraw within 15 days of purchase, unless such products and services have already been used in any way. In this case, the withdrawal period has ended and it is impossible to cancel the purchase or obtain a refund. Outside the withdrawal period, products or services are non-refundable, even if they have not been used and the term has not yet expired.
The credits charge, subscribing to a "package", purchasing a domain name or using a service such as ad removal is, as in the intent of the Terms, a "use" of a paid service. The user expressly agrees under these Terms that these services may be offered before the expiration of the withdrawal period, resulting in the waiver of such period.
The modalities of exercising the withdrawal and refund period offered under the present Terms and Conditions do not apply to paid products and services purchased through a third party partner of actionforum.com (contact the partner directly in this case, which will decide at its discretion whether or not not proceed with the refund). The withdrawal period and refunds do not apply to products offered by actionforum.com, including but not limited to during a competition.
To exercise the right to withdraw any paid service that has not been "used" as under the foregoing provisions and which are not covered by the above exclusions, the user may directly contact actionforum.com : or via +334.92.02.15.76.
If the user believes that actionforum.com has billed him incorrectly, he must contact the company regarding that account within 90 days. No refunds will be given for charges calculated more than 90 days ago.
actionforum.com reserves the right to refuse a refund request if there are reasons to believe that the user intends to make improper use of this refund policy (for example, on repeated refund requests for the same service or product), if he violates the Terms or if actionforum.com has reason to suspect that it is using the services in a fraudulent manner or that the user's account has been used fraudulently by a third party.
This refund policy has no impact on the user's statutory rights.
FORUM IMPORT
The Administrator of a phpBB, InVision, or PunBB forum with a self-hosted installation can import it into the actionforum.com service, as long as he can certify that he is the sole owner and that the forum complies with the Terms of Use.
To do this, he must create a new forum and make a request for forum import on the last page of the creation process. The Administrator must then embed the database of said forum, using the form shown. While waiting for the import of his forum to be completed, the user should not make any modifications to his newly created forum, as its contents will be overwritten by the import of his forum.
The user is informed by email about the different stages of the import process (receipt, progression, completion, or failure). The user can contact the company about this import request via the email address provided, or the official support forum.
actionforum.com makes every effort to ensure that the import is carried out under the best possible conditions and within the agreed deadlines. However, it is not possible to provide guarantees that there will be no delays nor about the final result of the import which remains highly dependent on the structure of the database of the forum to be imported. The requestor of an import therefore accepts the possibility that after the import, adjustments must be made to the forum to make it look like the original.
In any case, the import request, the contents of the database being imported, and the final forum imported at actionforum.com remain the sole responsibility of the Forum Administrator who initiated the request. He also unconditionally accepts that actionforum.com reserves the right to refuse import requests from forums that do not meet these conditions.

Exactly.
e.g. Chris W., Moderator candidate cannot access the forum.
But hey, thats how some people „create“ democratical structures.
By not allowing people to participate they don’t want to see participating.

The forum website clearly says you have to pay to remove ads. This is what I see at the bottom of the login page:Harvey Williamson wrote: ↑Fri Aug 06, 2021 8:23 pmEvery time I login to your forum I get adverts. I will email you a screenshot when I get home.

Ed complained in this thread that the moderators are not doing enough but when we do our due diligence to check out his suggestion he also complains.

I suggest that all moderator candidates add a statement on their policy how they intend to deal with the IP blocking issue. I am pretty sure Chris is able to use a US http-proxy or VPN to get access to TalkChess if he is interested. We can vote for the mods and the question to move the forum in one run, or alike.

You see ads everywhere you go, very common on the internet, as long as they aren't overly intrusive I don't see that as a big issue.

First they voted to cut of CTF, now Polish users and some others. I mean what can we expect from them in the future. Ask Sam the Eagle.smatovic wrote: ↑Sat Aug 07, 2021 9:30 am I suggest that all moderator candidates add a statement on their policy how they intend to deal with the IP blocking issue. Re: Time to say thanks to ChessUSA for all the good years and move
Not a huge issue for me either. However Ed has posted elsewhere that they can be got rid of for around 70 Euros a year which does not seem unreasonable. I wonder if they will also charge to move the talkchess.com address to them as we would not be using one of their addresses. The biggest worry is that after the move the same attacker continues. What will the new hosts reaction be to this?Modern Times wrote: ↑Sat Aug 07, 2021 9:43 am You see ads everywhere you go, very common on the internet, as long as they aren't overly intrusive I don't see that as a big issue.
