Overall I am very satisfied with the programs.

Unfortunately the price for ChessBase 17 will be increased. ChessBase 16 costs 120 euros and ChessBase 17 will cost 150 euros.

ChessBase is currently selling CB 16 for 120 euros, see the homepage.

Anyone who buys CB 16 now will have to pay 120 euros for an update to CB 17 (this information can be found in a price list from an another shop).

Anyone who buys CB 16 now will be taken for a fool. Anyone who wants the new features, including a new database format, will be annoyed.

So far, an update from CB 15 to 16 has cost around 80 euros. Now 120. I'm not willing to pay that on principle. If I can't get an update from CB 16 to 17 for a maximum of 80 euros, then I won't buy it.
I agree fully

I guess you don't drive a car or go to the grocery store 'on principle' anymore either?
That's rhetorical...but reality as we head into 2023.

I'm seeing the Chessbase 15-16 upgrade as $86.73 USD. That was perfectly okay with me for all the (regular - daily) use I get out of the regular 2 year upgraded version.

It would have to go up quite a bit for me to pass on CB17. If it works out to...what, $20 a year, I think I will not have any issues. Besides, there are the obligatory 'sales' and '24hr pop-up sales'. YMMV.

Too late to edit...but even at the NIC price for the upgrade...for me, it's + $24.90 USD more...which works out to less than $12.50/yr as they normally release a new version every 2 yrs

Just a guess, though.
I have a very large quantity of databases, big directories full and many are large DBs. I don't think Chessbase tests much in that kind of environment. It is visibly slow opening up a new directory, for example.

Hi.
This looks very exciting, but is in doubt about what to order. My setup is the program + bigbase 2021 (Starter packed for CB 16) which I updated with the 'update reference database for 2022'. Should I order the CB16->CB17 upgrade plus the bigbase 2023 or the reference database update for 2023. I want to be able to keep the reference database up to date throughout 2023. I don't think I need the commented database (Mega). Will probably never look at the comment. Even though I have been updating the bigbase it doesn't have as many games as the new BigBase 2023, I have removed doubles from my database.

Not sure.
In the US and just ordered the update...actually, since my CBM subscription expired with the current issue and I have not had a new Megabase in a while, I went ahead and got the update/Megabase 2023 + 1 yr updates/CBM 1 yr sub/12 mo premium/250 free ducats. for just under $200 USD in total.

Yes, I've seen several videos, including the 'release video with Arne today) and can't wait to dig into this - so many interesting things and enhancements!

Well, I ended up buying the upgrade plus the Mega base. What I was thinking with buying the upgrade plus Big base (or subscription for 2023) wasn't a good deal, the price would be the same as buying a new starter package. The important thing is that you get a good deal and not what it costs :)
There is some problem with the game update when after some attempt you get in but only to find out that you shouldn't have converted the Mega base to the new format, the update apparently only uses the old format. I guess we'll get an update soon.

I've just read the german CSS, forum and I actually like CB 16 better, as does a forum reader. All that frills with the colors puts me off. I like to comment in the Informator style, I prefer that. Especially since I do the same thing in the CTG book. Weak moves are made with ?! in the book so commented on me. I would like to keep that. Question: Are all such comments omitted with CB 17, or can the user decide for himself what he prefers? I don't need a buddy engine. I prefer to configure myself and can give each engine as many cores as I want. For tactical analysis, I prefer Crystal to Buddy.

I use Fritz 18 for all my engine tests. If Fritz 18 can't use the new 2CBH format, then I don't need 2CBH!! CB 16 is fast enough for me, I've never needed more than a few seconds to search. 2 years ago CB 16 was the ultimate. That's the way it is, I'm happy with it.

I would only like the dark mode. Otherwise I like CB 16 better unfortunately.
