18.e4 seems better right now allowing our N access to e3

IF BL plays Nb7 or Nf7 next ..if we play f4 .. its Qb8 and it is the roaring Lion that will have its own pawn storm underway with g5 after our g3 ..leading to a very tactical game with chances on both sides
might be better to consider Ne3 next depending on the Lions next move

After reading your post I now think f2-f4 was the better move , not weakening black squares and inducing stupid knight jumps, say, to f5.

After you pointed out Qb8 I saw that black has some kind of blockade on black squares, temporarily denying us f2-f4. For that reason, I think, f2-f4 first would have been more precise.
