Perhaps we can figure out a way to override the bug
I never really paid much attention to it but now seems like as good a time as any
some protocol for activating the bug...then once activated starting a new game without the bug ...
perhaps if we initiate the fun level bug(which generates "Bizarro World" moves on any level) in combo with the H bug ..this might exterminate the bug and then a game can be played?
some combination like that..

Bug Hunt Regards

Hi Steve,

I just set up the position prior to white Rook move to h6 with my Cosmos at level 30 sec. (I had just put in new batteries therefore no fun level problems)

[d]2kr3r/pp2qp2/2pbp2B/3n4/3P4/2P2QP1/PP2NP2/R3K2R w KQ - 0 24

From this position White'e next move Rh5 makes Cosmos play instantly ... Rxh6

I then also set up this position which was few moves earlier:

[d]2kr2r1/pp1nqp1p/2pbpn1B/8/3P4/2PB2P1/PPQ1NP2/R3K2R w KQ - 0 20

I then repeated the game moves and Cosmos repeated all the Centurion moves correctly as follows:

20. Bxh7 Nxh7 21. Qxh7 Rh8 22. Qe4 Nf6 23. Qf3 Nd5 24. Rh5 Rxh6??

So again Cosmos repeated the Bug instantly. I left a a few seconds between every White move to allow Cosmos to ponder.

Now interestingly if you set up this position:

[d]2kr3r/pp1nqp1Q/2pbp2B/8/3P4/2P3P1/PP2NP2/R3K2R w KQ - 0 22

And then retreat the white Queen to Qe4, Cosmos then instantly played Rxh6 from this position.

So I don't think it has anything to do with the Fun Bug because new batteries and never never crossing those levels with Cosmos.

I still think it has something to do with Ponder, like a Ponder flush error which only occurs when Rook is on h8 or h1 and pawns dont block the h-column.

Going to look for the other error positions now regards...

Best regards

Nick

Ok, I found some other examples:
  • 1) Expert Travel Bug

    [Event "Computer Chess Match"]
    [Site "Hoover, Alabama, USA"]
    [Date "2006.09.19"]
    [Round "1"]
    [White "Saitek Kasparov GK2100"]
    [Black "Saitek Mephisto Expert Travel"]

    [d]r1b4r/p3k1p1/2p1ppB1/1p6/n5R1/8/P1PB1PPP/R5K1 b - - 0 19

This one happened playing 2hrs/40 Expert Travel played 19. ... Rxh2?? Horrible!!!

    Rxh2?? 20. Kxh2 e5 21. Rh4 Be6 22. Rh7 Rg8 23. a3 c5 24. Be3 Bf7 25. Bf5 Be6 26. Bd3 c4 27. Bg6 a6 28. Rd1 Bg4 29. f3 Be6 30. Kg3 a5 31. Kh4 c3 32. Rb1 Bc4 33. Bh6 Nc5 34. Bxg7 Ne6 35. • 2) Cosmos Bug

    [Event "3.Online Aktivschach WM / B-WM Halbfinal"]
    [Site "?"]
    [Date "2007.04.01"]
    [Round "2"]
    [White "Cosmos 24 MHz, Saitek"]
    [Black "Radioshack 2250XL, Saitek"]
    [Result "0-1"]
    [ECO "D20"]
    [WhiteElo "2100"]
    [BlackElo "2039"]
    [PlyCount "80"]
    [EventDate "2007.??.??"]

    1. d4 d5 2. c4 dxc4 3. e4 c5 4. dxc5 Qxd1+ 5. Kxd1 e5 6. Be3 Nd7 7. Nc3 Bxc5 8. Nb5 Kf8 9. Nc7 Rb8 10. Bxc4 Bxe3 11. fxe3 Ngf6 12. Nf3 Nxe4 13. Rf1 Nd6 14. Be2 b6 15. Ke1 Nf5 16. Rd1 Nxe3 17. Nxe5 Nxe5 18. Rd8+ Ke7 19. Rxh8 Nxf1 20. Kxf1 Kd7

    [d]1rb4R/p1Nk1ppp/1p6/4n3/8/8/PP2B1PP/5K2 w - - 0 21

This time it is Cosmos's turn to show the bug. What is interesting here is that the error can happen also across the board and not just down the board. In all 3 cases a Rook is on h8. Perhaps it only happens with a Rook on h8? Of course 21. Rxc8?? is another disaster move.. :P

    21. Rxc8?? Rxc8 22. Nb5 Rc1+ 23. Kf2 Rc2 24. Ke3 Rxb2 25. a4 Ra2 26. Nxa7 f5 27. g3 Ra3+ 28. Kd2 g6 29. Kc2 Ra2+ 30. Kd1 Ng4 31. Bxg4 fxg4 32. Nb5 Rxh2 33. Nc3 h5 34. Ne4 Ke6 35. Ke1 Kd5 36. Nd2 Kd4 37. Nf1 Rg2 38. Kd1 Kd3 39. Ke1 Ra2 40. Nh2 Rxh2 0-1

OK
i did get the H bug with the Cosmos in this position at 30 sec avg

but check this out on your Cosmos
change the level to one of the ADT Levels (Auto Adaptive levels)
i get no bug
Cosmos will play Bc7 on ADT 1
Qf6 on ADT 6

so it seems that for my Centurion i only get the bug on Fun and Ply
and for my Cosmos every level EXCEPT ADT levels

Zeroing in Regards

This time it is Cosmos's turn to show the bug.
yet ANOTHER overclocked Morsch?
i think we have come to the bottom of this
your overclocking of these poor helpless dedicated computers is creating this bug which is spreading like wildfire to all Morsch programs worldwide

my OFF THE SHELF ..UNMODIFIED ..trusty ..10 Mhz Cosmos will play Na6 on ADT 7
but it again exhibits the bug on the 30 Sec level
however the bug seems to be mutating even as we speak
here the move is not immediate but rather it plays the kneeslapper Rxc8 after thinking for the 30 seconds

I think i better stop reading these posts before all of my Morsch computers become infected

Going for my H1N1 flu shot now regards
Steve

Funny!! :P Actually mine was the RS2250XL in this one. But, i did buy the overclocked Morsch from the opponent together with the Saitek Risc 2500 after the tournament :P .. (sadly he packaged the Risc poorly and it arrived all scratched and with half the pieces missing... but it still worked well so I kept it)

Talking about infections... lol... do you want to see an Atlanta & Magellan bug next? :P

ps... you are right the bug also does not happen with my Cosmos at ADT levels per your example.

As far as I know, the computers infected are Cosmos, Centurion, Cougar, Expert Travel, Talking Chess Adademy..... I also think the Explorer Pro has it but I dont have one so I can't say that from first hand experience.

Bug free are the originals, GK2100 and TC2100.

Best regards

but at this point i am too worried the bug will spread so i will just
Take your word for it Regards

there is one series of Dedicated computers available today that are somewhat high tech
they run on 206-500 Mhz Processors and have Engines from modern day programmors
they are called the Resurrection and Revelation series by Phoenix Technologies

That is one gorgeous looking board!

I wouldn't mind one of those puppies. Have you run any tournaments with these guys?

well the some of the engines in the Resurrection and Revelation have been tested by the SSDF under their normal high standards achieving the highest ratings ever for dedicated computers

you can see the ratings here..
no.39,44 and 45

http://ssdf.bosjo.net/list.htm

also the German based website Schachcomputer.info has active ratings and 3 minute Tournament level ratings for many of the Engines inside the Rev-Res here:
