Why speculate about something that has been explained a couple of posts above?

Strelka 5 is a reverse-engineering job of Houdini 1.5a. Evaluation and search are identical, whereas the time management and other surrounding code is more like Ivanhoe. There is no SMP, and its outputted scores are 2 times too high (by mistake or by intent - Jury has a fine sense of humor).

By including it in tournaments you give Houdini two chances to win...

It is slightly weaker than Houdini 1.5, probably about 80 points weaker than Houdini 3.

Ippolit is disassembled Rybka 3 with changes. The changes are considerable but not even close to enough to leave any doubt.
Robbolito is an evolved Ippolit, with more changes and more cleanup.

According to your logic then, since Rybka 4.1 is entered in the tournament, and Houdini is based on Ippolit or RobboLito (or did you write it all from scratch?),
Rybka (and Fruit?!) actually has 3 (or more...6, 7?) chances to win!


Didn't Critter's author also reverse Houdini 1.5 (or spy) to obtain it's secrets?

This is not that surprising, Ray. Even when Strelka 5.x was first released, it was scoring very well in 1-core matches and tournaments.

There is no multicore version yet, though if we only compare 1-cpu engines then Houdini's dominance is somewhat reduced.
