Looking at the games, it plays way too fast. Did this older version honor the "st" command at all (latest version seems to)?
That would be why. :) I didn't implement the "st" and "sd" commands until just before releasing 0.86 a couple of months ago, whereas 0.85j is from a few months before that (I think). With all the fixes that Dann and I found during that time, it doesn't surprise me that 0.86 plays much better.

Thanks, guys!

Interesting that Jazz managed 50% against GNU Chess 6 (which is basically Fruit, right?). Of course it's only two games, but I'll have a look at them anyway.

Do you know why OliThink is performing so poorly in the other group? Is it the time control?

Perfect scores for Critter and Stockfish in the qualification rounds. I think the elo gap between Critter/Stockfish and the rest is far too wide. Protector is a good choice if you want something in between Critter/SF and MinkoChess. I don't know if there are Android compiles for it though, and how portable the code is. But it's open source. Maybe Jim could have a look if he hasn't already done a compile for it ?
Theory and practice sometimes clash. And when that happens, theory loses. Every single time.

I've tried to compile Protector for Android before. Couldn't get it to work with Chess For Android.

Jim, did it run on Android, but just not in Chess for Android, or did it not run on Android at all? If the former, please send me the binary, so I can debug what goes wrong.

Here's the Protector binary > https://dl.dropbox.com/u/5047625/protector

It hangs in the initialization stage, before uci options screen is displayed.

I wouldn't know if it works with other software, I only use 'Chess For Android'.

Yes, it just hangs from the command line as well. No output, except a protector.log file, which is empty.

Code: Select all

$ ./protector
uci
