Then...don't turn them on.

Buddy is pretty darn nice for analysis (not the main engine of course). I...kind of think of it as a Monte Carlo touch to traditional 'look at multiple line analysis' which only weakens the main search.
One of the programmers made it clear today they had looked in the new iterations to emphasize 'play' with Fritz and 'analysis' with Chessbase.

That's exactly what I don't want. I'm sticking with the old model.

Yes, I saw the video. It's pretty good help compared to what you normaly get from program updates with only a changelog. I did only get it that they should convert the new Mega, but sure it's more to it than that since this only take a few minutes. I will download the Mega with the searchbooster and use the old format for the reference updates and only use the new format on my own files. I even got 3 medals in some of my own games! I also saw the video on Chessbase India, it's good too with some of the same contains.

Do we know for sure that old style Informant symbol annotations can no longer be used?
Could the defaults be changed maybe? :|

Of course you use the informator symbols in the notation like always.

I have just installed the program, but the new thing I see is that it add some more information to the PV-line of the analysis engine. It refine the 'only move' symbol to give some more information on how bad the second best move is. You can also turn on to see if a move is bad directly in the chessboard when analyzing with an engine.

They who wonder about the new features on Chessbase 17 could watch some videos on Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/results?search_ ... essbase+17 . They are pretty good.

As you please, but that old affliction is haunting you again - being too literal minded.

Actually, you get in engine analysis not just comments, but...wait for it....exclamation marks!!!!.

When trying it, the buddy engine gives even more information about the 'Only move' than I could extract from the video. If the square is split vertical the main move is easy to find. If it is split diagonal it is harder to find. It isn't clear from the manual which way is what, but I think if the diagonal goes from bottom left to upper right it still isn't too hard to find but not trivial, but if the diagonal goes the opposite direction it is harder for your opponent to find the move. In the manual they are described as 'bottom left to bottom right' and 'bottom right to bottom left'.
I think this feature could be useful when preparing for an human opponent like 99% of the user do. For 'post-men', this feature takes 20% of the machines capacity so they would probably turn it off.

I see the "Deep Analysis" function in CB 17 crashes without even operating.

Surely they could have fixed this by now.
