That would be OK if we didn't know what he did. But the "patch" was to remove a divide by 10 (I think by 10). You would not have to remove a divide to fix this up if it were a bug and not intentional.GenoM wrote:there is another possible answer why Rybka shows such weird number of kN/s, an answer noone have talked over.
There is a possibility that typical Rybka way of showing kN/s may be is a bug, a bug Rajlich is happy with. Remember, there was a patched by Rick Fadden version of Rybka beta which showed correct numbers of nodes and plies, but this version often losed on time.
How about such an answer? The same answer may be valid for another Rybka bug (or feature?) too -- underpromotion to bishop, if I recall correctly.

To laugh or to cry. This is the questionThis position is easily won for white...
Poor Botvinnik. You probably didnt know chess to play all those ugly french formations with so much power.
i need to cry.Black was Rybka 3. Don't you see there is no counterplay at all for black?
Black will be crushed on the Qeenside, no matter how he plays.
Just study Botvinnik games.
This position is just "with play for both sides."

He he he .............!
Rybka 3 isn't only a program. IT's THE EMPEROR of chess engines !
And Mr. Larry Kaufman ( an IM in practical chess ) worked at its evaluation function ( especially in imbalanced position ).
Clear for you jealous man ????
In my tests :
Rybka 3 (1 cpu-32 bit)-Crafty 22.1 +50=0-0

that sounds like a really _honest_ result since I have played it on ICC a number of games. But why did you only say 50 and not 500 to make the "story" even bigger???

You have no clue what you talk about here. What has this position to do with Botvinniks Games?oreopoulos wrote:To laugh or to cry. This is the questionThis position is easily won for white...

Total Nonsense. I'm not a chess programer. So why on earth should I be jealous?

Bob, if you visit a node in qsearch and perform several Static Exchange Evaluations to prune all (apparently bad) possible captures forward to stand pat and leave that all-node with eval <= alpha, how many nodes do you count? One, or one plus number of SEE-swaps?bob wrote: The classic definition of a node could be stated as "a node is what you get when you make a move and update the game board to a position that is not the same as it was before you made the move." It doesn't matter whether a node has branches leading out of it or not, all that matters is if you actually follow any of those branches, and to do so you just make the move the branch (arc) represents, and that takes you to a new node...

Duh? Probably because he is being honest about how many games were run. Give him a tougher question than that.bob wrote:that sounds like a really _honest_ result since I have played it on ICC a number of games. But why did you only say 50 and not 500 to make the "story" even bigger???
