Since black has to equalize first in the opening. The engines show that it is a good move. As it does both equalize or give a slight advantage for black. Plus it activates the b7 bishop.swami wrote:Engines give = score for c5. (+0.00)AdminX wrote:c5 is also playable for black.swami wrote:Possible moves for Kramnik:

I think f5 is good, for several reasons:
closes the long range light square (b1-h7) controlled by white Queen.
Stops the Knight from landing itself on f6.
Weak square and weak pawn will be eliminated.
Now it's slight =+ (-0.40)

Re: World Chess Championship (Game 9)
I doubt Kramnik thinks he is inferior here. I imagine he studied this type of position well, and is quite aware of white's options and black's defensive resources. Despite the dangerous looking options at white's disposal, I would be a bit surprised (and quite impressed) if Anand wins this. Granted, my opinions should be taken with a grain of salt, as they are presented without computer aideAnil wrote:Kramnik must be in tremendous pressure... even though he has some good options here, but he has to be very very careful so as not to give any advantage to white. He might even be thinking that his position is inferior to white's due to his lack of king safety.
I wonder if they are wishing for their favourite chess engine now!

Re: World Chess Championship (Game 9)
Actually you are pretty much right. He wouldn't find the position inferior in his favour. Kramnik is positionally good and his main weakness is getting himself into time trouble and making tactical blunders.BubbaTough wrote:I doubt Kramnik thinks he is inferior here.
