Re: Censorship Ahead
I like to think of moderators as cops rather than politicians, which is why I'm reluctant to vote for someone who actively participates in heated debates. When such a person becomes a moderator it's a safe bet that he's going to make life difficult for his opponents. I like mods such as Swami who seem to get along with everyone.
I'm not that interested in the clone debate, although I may occasionally react to an uninformed comment about the GPL or trademark issues. So I'd be a happy guy if I didn't have to see a new thread about Ippolit or Igorrit every five minutes. But censorship isn't the right way to clean up the forum. Moderators should simply combine threads of the same topic or move them to a more suitable subforum. It involves more work than banning people, but hey, with great power comes great responsibility.

Thanks! For a moment, I forgot where that quote came from. Realised that it was from Spider-Man.ilari wrote:Moderators should simply combine threads of the same topic or move them to a more suitable subforum. It involves more work than banning people, but hey, with great power comes great responsibility.

A little experiment to see how quick or if any would notice. So as you see, you have to look at the whole picture to get all the details, and narrow view on somethings do not always give full information.kingliveson wrote:The link in the previous post seems...well, so here again is the full picture to clear things up, and add a little perception. It's all about from which angle you look at things.

Re: Censorship Ahead
You are pretty well removed from direct interest, I would agree. And my comments were not about you specifically, in any case. I was just pointing out that this could be a major issue in certain circumstances.Harvey Williamson wrote:But it would then flap its arms around in a very dangerous waybob wrote:

I may be part of a commercial project but I receive no financial reward for it I am a Computer Chess supporter first and foremost. I would also be happy when there is a perceived conflict of interest to hand any decision making over to the other 2 mods if this was deemed necessary.

If Harvey Williamson should win the mod nomination here, I am asking that all my postings and account be immediately deleted, preferred with the following command:

Then I suggest you just stop posting a leave.kingliveson wrote:If Harvey Williamson should win the mod nomination here, I am asking that all my postings and account be immediately deleted, preferred with the following command:

Your account won't be deleted, nor will your posts. This has been asked time and time again and has _never_ been done.
It is actually quite childish to state if so or so is elected you want to have never existed here.
Are you going to stop your feet and hold your breath as well?
Good lord.
Peter
I was kicked out of Chapters because I moved all the Bibles to the fiction section.

I thought I would share this. I caught it today on Digg, and item 6 seems relevant. It doesn't occur in this case, but I see item 4 here almost daily.Peter Skinner wrote:It is actually quite childish to state if so or so is elected you want to have never existed here.
