I set up my 'big' machine at home (well, just a 3.4GHz i7 quad, but it still beats a laptop and I don't do SMP anyway) as a server for the engines, so that on the laptop I brought I only have to run the connection adapter with the proper port number as command-line argument (each engine is behind a different port) as an engine; the GUI has no idea that the engine isn't running locally!

Re: WCCC 2013 in Yokohama
I arrived in Yokohama this morning, (an 11-hour direct flight, and then 2 hours by train), and the weather is incredibly hot here. Like walking into an oven... But all buildings have airco, of course. So I won't see much of the surroundings, this time!

I start up all servers from a batch file I put on the Win 7 desktop, so that my wife will be able to restart the whole thing easily if some glitch occurs.

So you are not there for joker. What's the chess program you're using and do you have a chance to win.hgm wrote:I arrived in Yokohama this morning, (an 11-hour direct flight, and then 2 hours by train), and the weather is incredibly hot here. Re: WCCC 2013 in Yokohama
I am not participating in the Chess, because it fills the event for 100% and would not leave time for anything else.
My main reason for being there is the mini-Shogi tournament. Shokidoki has a realistic chance to win that. (It beat the world's reigning champion, also present now, in last year's UEC Cup, and I improved it a lot since then. Perhaps as much as 200 Elo.)

This is becoming quite ridiculous.
Next time, there will be 1 contestant and it will be declared undisputed World Champion!
Given the very restrictive anti "clone" policy, now only old timers are admitted there and for an outrageous amount of money, very sad.
At the very least, they should have 2 tournaments, say the "pure" tournament, with a "pure" World Champion and the "impure" one, but so much more interesting

If they investigated those old timers and applied the same standards as they have done before, I wonder what they would find and conclude.

Who knows, the Komodo team may be more than willing to enter if the (outrageous) fees would have been paid for them, including the trip, a nice hotel and some paycheck for the drinks, etcbob wrote:What could be done to solve this? I do have a sneaking suspicion that Shredder will win the event, stomping everyone in the process. It's been quite awhile since a release from that camp, and what better way that trouncing the competition at the WCCC.
With 6 participants... I guess one would call it a World Championship, and certainly who ever wins the event will market themselves as such. The casual fan wouldn't know the difference and would likely still bring in some sales. People here however know that none of the participants would have a shot at beating Houdini, Komodo, or Stockfish in a serious match.

Allowing derivatives certainly would make no difference. It is like allowing Martians, or Devie Beings toparticipate. The won't come anyway...
It s not a matter of who is allowed. It is purely a matter of who is willing.

So now you finally understand why the motto "It is more important to participate then to win"!melajara wrote:Next time, there will be 1 contestant and it will be declared undisputed World Champion!
