See if that makes it faster.
It is boring to always read the same words in your posts, telling us that XY does/did not work for you. I suggest that you come back when you actually found something that works.

Just skip it. Practice is that it almost always never works. So that means I should not post anymore. I don't think I have that discipline. No doubt the code you propose in this thread won't work for Skipper.

Only a very few advices ever gave improvements to Skipper. So I expect nothing.

Did you read what I said? No? Go back and read it.

No, posting is fine, when it has something meaningful to contribute.
No doubt the code you propose in this thread won't work for Skipper.
It works for Stockfish, Crafty, Houdini, Komodo, Senpai, and a bunch of other bitboard programs that don't immediately come to mind.

So why wouldn't it work for Skipper?

Thus proving my point that your code itself is the problem.

Hello Henk,

Y'know, I find your response at at once illuminating and disappointing.

Illuminating because it makes clear something which has been said repeatedly - that you are less than genuine in your search for knowledge - and disappointing because you you do not acknowledge any appreciation for the advice that you have been given.

In this thread alone, Sven has repeatedly offered advice, ideas and hints in his very patient style. That he lost it - for him, his expression of his exasperation is worth a thousand expletives from a normal person - is instructive.

I will definitely take the quote above into account with regard to future posts / threads from you.

Later.

Sven is one of the few people who could put up with me as a 12/13/14 year old programmer with little grasp of just how annoying and naive I really was. He has the patience of a saint, but gave up. That speaks for itself.

Lucas, Daniel, if you're reading this, I'm sorry for my actions earlier.

Then Skipper has already reached its optimum, so you can start a new project :-)

Yes start a new project that probably would be best. But I have no good ideas so I keep on muddling. Almost all software has already been written and usually 100 times better. So you have to be original or very specialized.

Some people would be very happy if you wrote an engine for playing Maka Dai Dai Shogi, even if it was only as strong as Skipper is with Chess.

Just saw it has 96 different pieces types. That will be long switch statements. (You know my code)
