The loser should get
20,000 euro for expenses (not included)
20,000 for his time (his few weeks there)
20,000 for his risk to his reputation.
20,000 towards life after retiring
=80,000 euro.

The rest can go to the winner.

Actually, if there was a rule that the loser never gets above 20%, would there never be a match?
If not, it's pure business, isn't it! The reigning champion always will make sure he'll get enough so he shouldn't need to win, but can simply exchange his world title for enough money for the rest of his life. In fact, it's as good as selling his title, and the chess is an added working vacation, just to do his duty.

I agree, the winner should get more money, at least as much as you propose.

It would make for a more interesting match.

That said, I hope that Anand will uncork a few more surprises for Kramnik or at least Kramnik pressing Anand to the wall to hold the title making for an interesting match.

Believe me status means more than money to these worthy champions!

It may sound contradictory but titles and prestige are of utmost importance in these cases.
