Thanks Boban,

a new version for sure, "soon" I don't know because it takes a loooong time to find the right recipe.

You said that engine development has become a team work. I fully agree with you: without Joona I would never been able to release a good 1.4 version.

There are also technical aspects that are greatly helped by a team work. I don't want to reveal details about our development model in theese latest months (that is the real secret recipe in Stockfish improvment) but I can assure you that "team work" is the key word here.

Stockfish isn't only for programmers, as I already said before. You enjoy making it, we enjoy using it. I also see Stockfish also as a valuable help to Tord Romstad. Developping a strong engine has become a team work, and I see you all three, Joona, Tord and you rather as a team.
That's how we think of ourselves, too. But there are a few people, Chris among them, who just don't like chess engines developed by teams. This is regrettable, but you can't please everyone.
So, don't bother. Just continue working. I hope that there will be a new, improved version soon.
Sure, we'll keep working. There will be a new and improved version, but I don't know how soon. :)

There are plenty of teams......

Junior, Spike.........

Don't put words in my mouth. You are no good at it. If you think these bunch of jokers will improve Glaurung when they cannot even build their own engine, then you are even more of a fantasist than you are already renowned for being.

Good luck with the trolls.

Sorry, then I don't know what it is you don't like.

Yes, I think we can keep improving Stockfish. We have a strong team with nicely complementary skill sets, and plenty of interesting ideas. Time will tell whether we succeed.

Congrats Tord! It must be fun to have teammates you work well with. I am happy for you, and just a little jealous. Looking forward to your continued progress.

Well, Arena certainly doesn't use X-FEN. It uses its own broken, ambiguous FEN variant.

[FEN "nrnqbkrb/pppppppp/8/8/8/8/PPPPPPPP/NRNQBKRB w KQkq - 0 1"]

1. h4 h5 2. b4 b5 3. Rb3 Rb6 4. g4 g5 5. Rh3 Rh6 6. Bxa8 Bxa1 7. Rhh1 Rhh8
*

Arena's FEN for this position is

Code: Select all

B1nqbkrr/p1pppp2/8/1p4pp/1P4PP/8/P1PPPP2/b1NQBKRR w Kk - 2 8
(which, if it were X-FEN, would indicate castling with the h-rooks).
The correct X-FEN is

Code: Select all

B1nqbkrr/p1pppp2/8/1p4pp/1P4PP/8/P1PPPP2/b1NQBKRR w Gg - 2 8
Which, coincidentally, is also the Shredder-FEN of the position.

Now, calling it _completely_ broken is a bit harsh, but Arena certainly tries very hard to achieve that distinction...

As I said though, and I'm not sure if that post was missed, Stockfish does not play chess960 properly under Shredder GUI either - and it should, Glaurung certainly does

As for Arena and chess960 - I wouldn't touch it with a barge pole

Thanks! Yes, having some people to cooperate with is more fun. :)

That post was not missed. Indeed, we think we have already found and fixed the bug, but more tests are needed.

Are you sure to set to true this UCI setting before to start the game ?
No, I did not set this Toga UCI parameter to true. I see it now.
This parameter does not exist in Stockfish.
